Kentik Joins Infoblox: Network Observability & AI

Today, we officially welcome Kentik to Infoblox, and what stood out to me well before the deal closed was how clearly our teams aligned on the problems that matter most. Both companies built their businesses around helping customers solve complex infrastructure and security challenges at scale. Just as important, we share a commitment to technical excellence, innovation and making modern hybrid and multi-cloud environments more resilient and simpler to operate. That alignment matters because great platforms are built by teams with a common view of the market and the outcomes that customers value most. From the beginning, we saw in Kentik a team that shares our focus on customer success and meaningful innovation. As we move from announcement to execution, that mindset gives me real confidence in what we can build together.

The technology fit is just as compelling. Infoblox is positioned at a unique intersection of the enterprise, with an authoritative view of what is on the network, who owns it and where it intends to go. Kentik adds the live truth of how that traffic actually behaves as it moves across the network. Put those together and you close a critical gap in modern IT operations: the gap between understanding how the network is configured and its real behavior in motion. Closing that gap creates an authoritative network data layer, accelerating an enterprise’s move to agentic operations.

That gap has been widening for years. Enterprises have had fragments of the answer, but those fragments lived in different systems, resided with different teams and had to be stitched together manually before anyone could respond with confidence. At the same time, the environments our customers run today are more distributed, more dynamic and more essential to the business than ever. Networking, security and cloud operations are deeply interconnected, but most organizations still manage them through disconnected tools and siloed data. That creates blind spots, slows investigations and makes it harder to understand whether a problem is a security issue, a performance issue, a configuration issue or some combination of the three. It also raises the cost of every incident, every outage and every unnecessary handoff between teams.

Infoblox and Kentik close that gap by bringing both perspectives onto a single foundation. Infoblox provides the trusted authority in DNS, DHCP, IP address management (IPAM), asset identity and DNS-based security intelligence. Kentik contributes real-time observability across traffic, paths, performance, service health and user experience. Combined, organizations have a more complete way to validate reality against expectation and make faster, better operational decisions. Our customers get the network truth: a single, authoritative view that connects what is configured, who and what is on the network, where traffic is going and how it is performing.

For enterprise leaders, the value shows up in outcomes that matter to the business. It means:

  • Greater Resilience: Teams can identify issues faster and understand their impact with greater clarity.
  • Lower Mean Time to Resolution: Operators spend less time bouncing between consoles, reconciling conflicting data and escalating across organizational silos.
  • Stronger Security: Suspicious activity can be validated with richer context and prioritized with more confidence.
  • Better Analyst Productivity: Teams can move from signal to answer to action without having to manually reconstruct the story of what happened.

That same foundation matters even more as agentic operations take on real responsibility in IT. AI agents are quickly becoming part of how network, cloud and security teams investigate issues, prioritize actions and automate response. As that role expands, both operational complexity and the business’s reliance on these agents will continue to rise. Those agents also operate in environments that AI itself is making more dynamic, where AI-dependent workloads create constantly shifting communication patterns and a greater need for real-time understanding of network behavior. What limits dependable agentic operations is usually not the capabilities of the underlying models, but the fact that identity, intent and telemetry live in separate systems. When the data is fragmented, stale or stripped of context, even sophisticated models can produce answers that are confidently wrong. The first time an agent acts on one of those answers in a way that creates downtime or business risk, trust evaporates.

That is exactly the problem we’re solving with Kentik. Together, we are building an authoritative network data layer for the age of agentic operations and security, because enterprises need trusted context joined to live operational reality. They need AI that knows, not AI that guesses. If automated operations are going to take on meaningful responsibility, they require a trustworthy view of what is happening across the network at any given moment. That is why I believe the combination of the critical network services layer and network observability matters so much—it will allow automated operations to move from recommendation to dependable action.

Most of all, today is about welcoming the Kentik team to Infoblox. They bring not only meaningful capabilities and expertise, but a shared culture of innovation and customer obsession. Their perspective and passion will make us stronger, just as Infoblox’s scale, customer reach and foundation in authoritative network data will create new opportunities to extend their impact. Closing the deal is an important milestone, but it is not the story. The real story is what comes next as we bring these teams, technologies and datasets together and turn our collective commitment into better outcomes for customers.

Scott Harrell joined Infoblox in January 2023 as CEO, responsible for the overall strategy, growth and continued success of the company. Harrell is a seasoned leader with extensive portfolio management experience, having spent over two decades in leadership roles at Cisco Systems and Intel. Prior to joining Infoblox, Harrell was the senior vice president and general manager for Cisco’s $20B Intent Based Network business unit where he oversaw the entire portfolio and engineering teams across enterprise, IoT and data center markets. Prior to that, Harrell led product management for Cisco’s Security portfolio. Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles at Intel along with several strategic consulting roles at early-stage start-ups. Scott has an MBA from UNC-Chapel Hill, Kenan-Flaglar Business School and a bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.
