Launch Keyboard tips to make you more productive
2026-03-04 · via System76 Blog RSS Feed

Launch Configurable Keyboards have been redesigned in prism black with corrosion-resistant (doubleshot PBT) shine-through keycaps. Manufactured in Denver, these open source keyboards were expertly engineered for fast, comfortable typing. Customize your layout so that no key goes unused.

Your Space bar has a second function

Think about the most uncomfortable key on your keyboard that you deal with multiple times per minute. Now, place it under your thumb instead.

Launch uses a split-Space bar to remap those common, hard-to-reach keys (Shift, Backspace, Ctrl, Esc, Fn) and places them under your strongest digit. Less effort, fewer cramps, faster typing.

This isn’t as habit-changing as it looks: In testing, we found that users generally hit the typical space bar on one side or the other, not in the middle.

Use LEDs to increase efficiency (Yes, really.)

Launch keyboards use four configurable layers, with Layer 1 used for typing. Just like different sides of a Rubik’s cube can have different color arrangements, keyboard layers can serve different functions–with a key that cycles between them.

Software such as Unreal Engine, Blender, or DaVinci Resolve use keyboard navigation to empower its users to make rapid progress. Mapping these shortcuts to the Layer 2 on your Launch Heavy provides quick guidance on shortcut keys and allows the brain to make quicker decisions. It’s especially helpful for new users to these programs.

The included SuperSpeed USB hub saves additional time, transferring 1 Terabyte of video in 15 minutes via USB 3.2 Gen 2.

Enjoy your changes on any computer

Any customizations made to your Launch are saved to the keyboard itself, meaning you only have to make those customizations once. Bring your comfort zone with you from office to office, studio, lab, across sites, or back home.

The System76 Keyboard Configurator works cross-platform for Linux, Windows, and macOS.

Comfort goes a long way

Launch keyboards are made in Denver using milled aluminum. Its heft keeps it stable and inert as you type. Durable housing, corrosion-resistant (doubleshot PBT) keycaps, removable switches, and optional magnetic feet for a 15 percent incline.

Names are made on Launch

From project to project, job to job, or team to team. Lean on Launch Keyboards to keep you cruising through every milestone.
