Bryan Armetta shares his two favorite MLB NRFI prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Thursday’s six-game slate.
A six-game, 12-team slate on Thursday makes up today’s Major League Baseball action. For those looking to cash in quickly on a bet, nothing makes more sense than an NRFI. With that being said, there’s more to this one than meets the eye. Some pitchers thrive early, while others take more time to get settled in than others. Which NRFI picks are worth a closer look today?
Ahead of Thursday’s MLB contests, here are two NRFI bets worth placing on DraftKings Sportsbook.
None other than Chris Sale will take the mound at Fenway Park. Through ten appearances, the former Cy Young winner has been nothing short of spectacular. This season, he’s posted a 1.89 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 72 strikeouts (10.5 K/9). Unsurprisingly, he’s allowed a first inning run on just two occasions so far (80% NRFI). There’s a good chance that continues tonight in Beantown. The Red Sox have been abysmal at the plate, averaging the fourth-fewest runs per game (3.85) in baseball. To boot, Boston owns an MLB-worst 14.81% YRFI rate at home. There’s no reason to think Sale can’t stifle his old club this afternoon.
The Sox will counter with a stellar southpaw of their own on Thursday. Former top prospect Payton Tolle has lived up to the hype so far. Over 36.2 innings of work, he’s accounted for a 2.45 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 39 strikeouts (9.6 K/9). In addition, the rookie has yet to allow more than three earned runs in any start. Granted, that’s easier said than done against a tenacious Atlanta lineup. Still, this group does better against righties (.766 OPS) than they do against lefties (.727 OPS). That alone, combined with Sale’s dominance, is enough to consider backing this NRFI prop.
Quality starting pitching has proven to be elusive in Houston. Fortunately for the team, Spencer Arrighetti is looking the part of an ace this season. During 41.0 frames this season, the right-hander has produced a 1.32 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40 strikeouts (8.8 K/9). Coming into this one, he’s tossed 12.1 scoreless innings over his previous two outings. He’ll hope to continue that streak against a weak-hitting Rangers lineup. At home, Texas ranks last in baseball with 3.17 runs per game and second-worst with a 16.67% YRFI rate.
On the other side, it’ll be Nathan Eovaldi taking the hill this evening. Despite a shaky first few weeks, the 36-year-old is on track for another stellar campaign. Through 61.2 innings pitched, he’s recorded a 3.65 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 61 strikeouts (8.9 K/9). He comes into this one having surrendered four earned runs over his previous four games (1.24 ERA). To boot, Evo has allowed just two runs during his last four starts against the Astros. Even against an above-average offense, Texas’ veteran hurler is someone worth backing tonight.
