As you pinpoint your high-salary stars to build around, you may need to dive into the bargain bin and find a few MLB DFS Value Picks to balance out your spending. In this post, we’ll look at three of my top MLB DFS value picks, who each bring excellent upside at a bargain salary.

• SP David Sandlin, Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals, $5,700: Sandlin posted 22.9 FPTS in his MLB debut and is back for this favorable matchup against the Royals after looking strong in Triple-A.
• C Kyle Teel, Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals, $3,000: Teel is back after his extended injury absence for a great matchup against Mitch Spence. He went 12-for-31 (.387) with a double and two homers in his rehab stint.
• 1B Josh Bell, Minnesota Twins vs. Colorado Rockies, $2,600: In his last 10 games, Bell averaged 10.1 FPTS while hitting .361 with two doubles, two homers and a 46.7% hard-hit rate. He’s too cheap for his upside in a juicy matchup Friday night.

Top MLB DFS Value Plays

SP David Sandlin, Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals, $5,700

The White Sox are bringing back David Sandlin from Charlotte for Friday night’s start against the Royals, and he’s an extreme value on the probable pitchers list. The 25-year-old righty is high-risk but brings lots of upside, as well. He showed that upside with 22.9 FPTS in his MLB debut back on May 27, but then struggled in his two following outings, allowing eight runs to the Twins and three runs to the Phillies, earning only 3.7 FPTS total for those two outings.

He was solid in his two most recent starts in Triple-A, posting a 2.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with nine strikeouts in 11 innings. The Royals should be a nice matchup for him to return to the majors in, and he should also get good run support against Mitch Spence ($5,100), who is a good matchup for Chicago’s offense, as explained below.

C Kyle Teel, Chicago White Sox vs. Kansas City Royals, $3,000

Teel is a great bargain at only $3,000 after working his way back from a hamstring injury that he sustained in the World Baseball Classic. He also suffered a knee injury while working his way back, but when he was on the field, he was able to be very productive.

After August 1, Teel hit .270 with six homers, six doubles and a .352 wOBA last season. In eight rehab games, he went 12-for-31 (.387) with a double and two homers, so he looks ready to resume his excellent offensive production from behind the plate. Teel went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his season debut, but on Wednesday, he went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk for 9.0 FPTS.

He’s a great bargain coming into his matchup against Spence, who has allowed 12 runs on 11 hits in his eight MLB innings. He struggled with the A’s last year, as well, going 3-6 with a 5.10 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Lefties have hit him well in the past, so Teel is in a spot to smash at only $3,000.

1B Josh Bell, Minnesota Twins vs. Colorado Rockies, $2,600

The Rockies are in Minnesota for the weekend, with Tomoyuki Sugano ($5,800) taking the mound on Friday in the opener. He has been hammered by lefties this season, and the switch-hitting Bell will face Sugano from that side. Lefties against Sugano are hitting .268 with a .287 ISO and a 16.5% barrel rate.

Bell’s averaged 10.1 FPTS in his last 10 games by going 13-for-36 (.361) with two doubles, two homers and a 46.7% hard-hit rate over that span. He has a high-ceiling in this good matchup and comes at a salary that leaves plenty of room to include him with whatever big stars you choose to build around.
