The Western Conference Finals roll on tonight, with the venue shifting to San Antonio. If there’s one thing you can bank on, the Thunder and Spurs will both play with desperation tonight. Although the latter faces elimination, OKC wants to do everything in its power to avoid a do-or-die Game 7. One lesser known name that could play a key role is Isaiah Hartenstein. The gritty center has had to go toe-to-toe with superstar Victor Wembanyama, not an easy assignment. Still, he’s managed to make his presence felt on both ends of the floor in this series. What should bettors expect from I-Hart in this one?

With that being said, he’s done a little bit of everything for the Thunder this postseason. Through 13 playoff games, the big man is averaging 9.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.8 blocks. During that stretch, he’s shooting an efficient 67% from the field.

At first glance, the Western Conference Finals looked like a bad matchup for the veteran. That was only reinforced after Game 1, in which I-Hart only logged 12 total minutes during a double-overtime affair. However, he remains firmly entrenched in head coach Mark Daigneault’s rotation. Hartenstein has rewarded OKC with a string of stellar showings over the past week. During Games 2, 3 and 4, he’s putting up 9.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists. It’s worth noting that he’s played more than 30 minutes only once in that time.

The Spurs, equipped with the gargantuan Wembanyama, are one of the association’s better rebounding teams. Still, they’ve had trouble boxing out Hartenstein. The German has snagged at least nine boards in six of his previous nine meetings with San Antonio. Whenever the Thunder opt for a double-big lineup with Chet Holmgren, it forces the opposition to pick their poison. Unless the Spurs want to give more minutes to backup Luke Kornet (doubtful), this dilemma should carry over to Game 6.

It’s never easy to back any big man against an elite rim-protector such as Wemby. Still, he’s only one person; there should be opportunity down low for OKC tonight. After all, Hartenstein has scored at least ten points in three of the last four games of this series. At this point, it’s difficult to envision I-Hart not reaching double-digit points or boards, if not both. Should either of those scenarios occur on Thursday, this P+R total can be reached.
