Benson may be only 20 years old, but his play style is made for the playoffs, and he has been productive offensively over the past two games, with back-to-back multi-point games. Buffalo’s Benson-McLeod-Doan line is like having three Scrappy Doo’s on the ice all at once, and their peskiness showed up in Game 1 against the Canadiens when the three of them combined for six points. They all excel at forechecking and takeaways, which has directly resulted in odd-man rushes and high-quality chances. I’d expect a tighter game from Montreal this time around, but Benson found success against the club during the regular season, notching a point in three of four meetings.
LaCombe has notched an assist in all but two games this postseason, but he has yet to miss the mark at home. The 25-year-old is tied with Jack Eichel for the most assists this postseason (9), and he ranks second in primary assists (5), behind only Nathan MacKinnon. The Ducks handled business in Game 2 with a 3-1 win, and the series shifting to Anaheim for Games 3 and 4 should bode well for them. Anaheim has averaged 5.33 goals per game across three home games this postseason, and I still don’t trust Carter Hart in big games. LaCombe leads his team in total ice time this postseason, and he should see plenty of high-quality chances to make plays for his teammates in Game 3 tonight.
