Blake Krass gives his best bet, pick and prediction for Saturday’s FIFA World Cup match between Colombia and Portugal.
This should be one of the best matches of the entire group stage. Colombia currently sits atop Group K after winning both of its first two matches. Meanwhile, Portugal is just a couple of points behind after a dominant win over Uzbekistan. That means the winner of this match would win the group, while a draw would give the group to Colombia. This match takes place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Here are the odds for the match:
Let’s dive into my favorite bet for this match.
This has been an excellent tournament for Colombia so far. They were expected to advance out of the group, but be second fiddle to Portugal. So far, they have looked better than Portugal through two matches. They defeated Uzbekistan 3-1, thanks to a goal and an assist from Luis Diaz. Colombia then defeated DR Congo 1-0 thanks to Daniel Munoz scoring his second goal of the tournament. This team has some serious attacking threats and is also solid defensively. They seem to be flowing well as a group and will be a tough out for anyone in this tournament. Colombia is now in a great spot, due to the fact that a win or a draw in this match would secure them the group.
It has been a tale of two Portugals through its first two matches. In the opener against DR Congo, they looked completely disjointed, and that ended in a 1-1 draw. There were calls to bench Cristiano Ronaldo, who seemed to be breaking up all of the flow of the Portuguese side. However, in the second match against Uzbekistan, it was a clinical performance by Portugal. Ronaldo turned back the clock and scored a pair of goals, with Portugal going on to win 5-0. They are now in a position where a win in this match would win them the group.
My best bet is on Colombia to cover the spread of +0.5 goals. There is less pressure on Colombia in this match, needing just a draw to clinch the group. They have also looked like the more steady side through two matches. So, I will gladly back them at plus-money just to get a result in this match. While it was a clinical performance from Portugal against Uzbekistan, I’m not fully sold on them. Some of the issues they had against DR Congo could be exacerbated by facing a much tougher opponent like Colombia. They were able to cruise to victory against Uzbekistan, who possess far less talent than them. However, this will be a much tougher test, and Colombia should be the squad that rises to the task.
