Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed premieres on Apple TV this week, and early reviews indicate the Tatiana Maslany thriller-comedy could be another winner for the streaming service.
Apple TV has been on a hot streak with new series lately, and its next premiere looks set to continue that trend.
Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed arrives this Wednesday, May 20 with its first two episodes, followed by weekly releases through July 15.
The thriller-dark comedy “follows newly divorced mom Paula (Tatiana Maslany) as she falls down a dangerous rabbit hole of blackmail, murder and youth soccer.”
Early reviews are very positive, with a lot of praise especially directed at the cast, headlined by Maslany. The Guardian calls the series “implausible yet enjoyably twisty, with Maslany superbly watchable – as are her antagonists.”
Supporting players include Jake Johnson (New Girl), Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), and Dolly De Leon (Nine Perfect Strangers)
A new podcast launched today called TV Is Good. It features two notable TV critics: Alan Sepinwall (formerly Rolling Stone, now indie at What’s Alan Watching?) and Kathryn VanArendonk (Vulture).
In their inaugural episode, Sepinwall and VanArendonk talk Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed and similarly found the series a lot of fun.
Both praise Maslany’s performance and character as very compelling, and commended the whole ensemble too. They also found the pacing spot-on, with episodes a tight 30-40 minutes that make you want to watch more.
