YouTube Premium is getting a US price hike of up to $4/month
2026-04-10 · via 9to5Mac

Google is implementing a price hike for YouTube Premium plans in the US, with prices going up by as much as $4 per month.

Live now for new subscribers, YouTube Premium pricing in the US is as follows:

  • Individual: $15.99/month, up from $13.99
  • Family: $26.99/month, up from $22.99
  • Lite: $8.99/month, up from $7.99
  • Music Premium: $11.99/month, up from $10.99

YouTube Premium has not raised prices in a few years now, with the Family plan jumping from $17.99 to $22.99 back in 2022, and individual plans later following in 2023 from $11.99 to $13.99 at the time. YouTube Premium Lite has only been available for about a year, with background play and offline downloads added to the low-cost subscription earlier this year.

Existing YouTube Premium subscribers are starting to be notified of the price change via email, though Google hasn’t widely announced the hike at this point. In our account which is subscribed to the family plan, the $22.99/month rate is still showing, but a number of users report receiving emails about the higher pricing.

Apparently, the change in price will kick in during the June 2026 billing period.

The email reads in part:

To continue delivering great service and features, we’re increasing your price to $15.99/month. We don’t make these decisions lightly, but this update will allow us to continue to improve Premium and support the creators and artists you watch on YouTube.

You will see the change reflected on your June 7, 2026 billing date.

While these price hikes are not major – by comparison, Netflix also raised prices by $2 recently, the second hike in less than two years – but they’re certainly not going to be received well.

Premium subscribers can cancel their subscription via YouTube Memberships, where the subscription can also be paused for up to six months. Individual plan holders can save 15% – just over $13/month – when paying annually for $159.99.
