Apple Wallet supports car keys, home keys, digital IDs, credit cards, boarding passes, order tracking, and more. Here are the new ways the Wallet app has gotten better recently, and what’s coming next.

Apple Wallet’s latest new rollouts for car key, home key, and upgraded boarding passes

Apple Wallet is unique compared to other iPhone apps in that many of its features require third-party support. For example, Wallet has long offered digital car keys, but every automaker has to individually sign on first.

iOS 26 brought a bunch of upgrades to Wallet last fall, but more recently, several prominent third parties have newly launched support for different Wallet features.

  • Car Key: Apple’s car key feature enables drivers to lock, unlock, and start their car using only their iPhone or Apple Watch and the Wallet app. Here’s a list of all supported vehicles. Last summer Apple said 13 new brands would add car keys soon, but recently a big brand not on the list launched support: Toyota now offers Apple car key. It’s available with the latest RAV4, with plans to expand to more vehicles in the future.
  • Home Key: Similar to car key, Apple home key lets you unlock any door using the Wallet app. There are a variety of home key-supported smart locks available, but a major new one just arrived: the Aqara Smart Lock U400. What’s great about Aqara’s new lock is that it supports Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. This means it can auto-unlock and lock for you with a level of precision and reliability not previously possible.
  • Boarding Passes: Boarding passes have been available in Wallet across all major airlines for years. But in iOS 26, Apple shipped an upgraded boarding pass experience that includes three new features built in: Live Activities, airport maps, and luggage tracking with Find My. Several major airlines offered the new boarding passes by the end of last year, but the biggest holdout just launched support: American Airlines.

These new Apple Wallet additions will be joined by the following upcoming rollouts.

Upcoming rollouts announced for Apple Wallet

Here’s a preview of upcoming additions to the Wallet app based on previous announcements.

  • Student ID: The University of Texas announced last month that it will offer digital student IDs in Apple Wallet. This will let students access buildings, library services, events, dining, and more using their iPhone or Apple Watch. The only downside: it’s not coming until the 2027-2028 academic year.
  • Car Key: Porsche is launching Apple car key support very soon, starting with its 2026 electric Macan and Cayenne. Additionally, we’re expecting General Motors to launch car keys for its various brands in the near future, with Apple saying Cadillac, Chevrolet, and GMC are all on board.
  • Driver’s Licenses: Last fall Apple launched a new Digital ID in Wallet that can be added with a US passport. But states continue to slowly roll out their own ID support by offering digital driver’s licenses. And two that seem next in line are Arkansas and Virginia. Both have recently committed to launch in Apple Wallet, and the former already offers Google Wallet support.

Beyond these upcoming additions, Apple is about to unveil iOS 27 at WWDC, which may bring all-new features for the Wallet app too.

What all do you use Apple Wallet for on a regular basis? Let us know in the comments.
