Should the iPhone Air 2 have an ultrawide or telephoto

Should the iPhone Air 2 have an ultrawide or telephoto as the second camera? [Poll] | Render of the upcoming model shown

A report from late last year said that the iPhone Air 2 would be getting a second camera, but it wasn’t clear at the time whether this would be an ultra-wide or telephoto.

Bloomberg now reports that this will be an ultra-wide – but if this is true, is Apple making the right call … ?

The question is a potentially contentious one, as proponents of each of the two options tend to be very vocal about their views. Each side seems to view it as obvious that their preference is the right one.

In an attempt to apply some objectivity to the issue, I used smart folders in the Photos app on my Mac to see which of the two additional lenses I had used most. Unfortunately, the data didn’t prove too helpful. More than 90% of my photos and videos were shot using the standard lens. However, for the remainder, there was a complete split between photos and video.

For the photo exceptions, I most commonly used the ultrawide lens, including for macro shots. However, when it came to videos, I frequently use the zoom capability and literally never use the ultrawide. In fairness, I should say the latter is partly because low-light video performance is terrible using the ultrawide lens, but I think it would still be true without this factor.

I’d therefore personally find it incredibly difficult to choose between the two, which I guess is a key reason I wouldn’t consider buying an iPhone Air, no matter how cute I find them to be. But how about you? Please take our poll, and share your reasons in the comments.
