Mark Stuart, who grew up in Cronulla and studied pharmacy at the University of Sydney, has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List 2026. The announcement, published in the UK, honours Dr Stuart for his services to the pharmacy profession in sport and to anti-doping.

The distinction recognises more than 25 years of contribution to sports pharmacy and anti-doping at the highest international level - a journey that began locally when Dr Stuart first participated as a pharmacist at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

Since that milestone, Dr Stuart's career has spanned 11 Olympic Games. He has held pivotal advisory roles with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), serving as a member of WADA's Prohibited List Expert Group since 2014 to advise on which substances are banned in sport each year. He also founded the first postgraduate qualification in sports pharmacy within the Olympic Movement.

Residing in Lausanne, Switzerland, Dr Stuart serves as Head of the ITA Academy at the International Testing Agency, Chair of the European Olympic Committees Medical and Anti-Doping Commission, and European Continental Representative to the Association of National Olympic Committees Medical Commission.

His extensive work includes supporting UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) since 2002 as the UK pharmacist expert in drugs in sport for Global DRO, a role focused on auditing new UK-licensed medications and ingredients each quarter.

Following the announcement, UKAD released a statement celebrating his achievement. UKAD chief executive Jane Rumble praised his lifelong dedication to clean sport. "Dr Stuart's OBE represents a highly deserved recognition of his extraordinary contribution to sport, pharmacy, and clean competition," she said. "His expertise and dedication have helped to shape anti-doping and sports pharmacy practice at the very highest level. We're grateful for his continued support."
