Georges River Council has engaged a contractor to deliver upgrades to the sporting and public amenities buildings at Olds Park, adjacent to the Oval.
The works have involved removing the existing structures and constructing a new, modern facility that meets current safety, accessibility and community use standards.
Early construction works are now complete, with the project reaching important milestones. This includes:
. Site establishment
. Installation of temporary facilities for community and sporting use during construction
. Demolition of the existing buildings
. Bulk excavation works
. Preparation of ground floor construction
Once complete, the upgraded facility will include accessible changerooms and toilets, enhanced club facilities and improved spectator areas for families and supporters.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg said, "The completion of these early works is an important moment for this project. The new facility will offer more accessible and welcoming amenities for everyone who uses the park."
A total of $4.9 million was obtained via grant funding from NSW Office of Sport through the Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund.
Oatley MP Mark Coure said local families and sporting groups would be thrilled to see the long-awaited Olds Park upgrade finally coming to life.
"Olds Park is one of the best places to play and watch grassroots sport in our local area. I really believe that our community deserves only the very best when it comes to local sporting infrastructure, and that is exactly what we are getting," Mr Coure said.
'I was proud to have backed this project in 2022 with $4.9 million worth of State Government funding, alongside the AFL and Council. This significant upgrade will make a real difference for both community and elite sport in our local area."
