Georges River Council presented two marine 'hero' play options for community comment for the playground - a giant fish or a giant octopus.

The community favoured the octopus option, described as a high-challenge climbing and sliding structure designed for imaginative play and creative storytelling. It will offer opportunities for climbing, tentacle exploration trails, sliding, net climbing, swinging, tunnels, hideaways, tower lookouts and platforms.

Stage one of the playground upgrade was completed in October 2024 and included expanded play areas, new equipment, new seating and supporting infrastructure.

Stage two introduces new inclusive play elements, including a new wheelchair accessible swing, an accessible flying fox and durable rubber softfall.

The design also includes a new chillout area, offering a comfortable space to relax and socialise.

The Owl sculpture by Greek sculptor Takis Kozokos will also return to the playspace as part of the upgrade.

Respondents who preferred the octopus design noted that it was a memorable and visually striking play element. A further benefit identified was its ability to function as a central hub within the playground, which is otherwise relatively spread out.

This month's meeting of Georges River Council's Assets and Infrastructure Committee noted the outcome of the community comment and endorsed the concept design for the Carss Bush Park Playspace Stage 2 to proceed to detailed design and construction.
