At the time the house was built, Woolooware Road was transforming from estates of four to seven acres, many with horse paddocks and fruit orchards.

In 1954, Lesley and Richard Loaney acquired a portion of land on which the garage of The Gables had been located and began building their home, which was completed in 1955.

Richard established a butcher shop at 151 Woolooware Road in the early 1960s, and was well known for riding his horse to work each day. The shop now operates as Burraneer Gourmet Meats.

The property at 467 Woolooware Road will be auctioned by Highland unless sold beforehand. No price guide was available.

Located on a 3092 square metre, level, battle axe block, the house has sweeping views of Port Hacking.

The agent said the property "represents a unique convergence of history, lifestyle and enduring family ownership".

The vendors said in a statement, "After many wonderful years of sharing a life with our parents and raising our two daughters here, the time feels right for our next chapter.

"This home has been incredibly special to our family and holds so many cherished memories, from family gatherings through to watching the girls grow up and move on with their own lives.

"What made it even more meaningful was sharing the home with our parents, with generations of our family living, growing, and growing older together under the one roof."

Highland agent David Smith said the house was renovated and transformed in 1995 into "a substantial multi-generational home while retaining its original essence".

"The property offers rare dual accommodation, ideal for extended families or guests, complemented by a separate studio with its own bathroom and private access perfect as a retreat, office or independent living space," he said.

"The residence itself is grand in scale, with a selection of formal and informal living and dining areas wrapped in glass to maximise the stunning water views.

"Six generously sized bedrooms are positioned throughout, most capturing panoramic vistas, while the master suite offers a private sanctuary complete with walk-in robe, ensuite and additional attic storage.

"Further highlights include a 250-bottle wine cellar, four-car garaging, extensive additional parking and exceptional storage throughout.

"Outdoors, beautifully landscaped gardens and sweeping level lawns create a sense of tranquility and space rarely found in waterfront properties today.

"Despite its peaceful and private setting, the estate remains moments from local shops, dining, transport options and leading schools."
