Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, and CIX Technology, a semiconductor innovator, today announced a strategic collaboration to deliver an optimized Ubuntu experience on CIX Technology’s P1 platform –  a 12-core Armv9.2 system-on-chip (SoC) designed for AI and edge applications. This partnership gives organizations access to a security-maintained, enterprise-grade Ubuntu experience on the P1 platform, streamlining deployments across key verticals such as AI agent boxes, AI PCs, robotics, network-attached storage (NAS), and industrial edge.

This announcement follows the positive community reception of an initial Ubuntu concept image designed for developer use on the P1. Now, Canonical and CIX Technology are deepening their partnership to deliver a robust, enterprise-grade Ubuntu experience on the platform, backed by Canonical’s maintenance commitments. This optimized image will be supported for up to 15 years with Ubuntu Pro, ensuring that devices remain security maintained and functional long after their initial deployment.

In addition to providing a stable, long-term enterprise foundation, the Ubuntu image also enables CIX Technology hardware’s advanced capabilities. Most notably, it delivers native support for the P1’s  heterogeneous computing capability, so users can utilize up to 45 TOPS of combined AI compute.

Accelerating time to market with certified hardware 

Delivering an optimized Ubuntu image for CIX Technology’s P1 platform ensures that the hardware works seamlessly out of the box, serving as a powerful starting point for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and original design manufacturers (ODMs). Through Canonical’s hardware certification program, starting with a certified P1 device provides a proven, optimized Ubuntu experience. Since the underlying software stack is ready and tested, developers can focus entirely on building robust AI and edge applications, rather than worrying about low level system integration. Users can benefit from the full power of the P1 silicon and bring innovative products to market faster.

Enterprise-grade security and compliance

Customers using P1-based solutions will benefit from Canonical’s commitment to security patching and long-term maintenance. Furthermore, Canonical’s rigorous approach to software supply chain security and lifecycle management provides users with a clearer path toward meeting the requirements of the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and other emerging regulations in the edge and AI spaces. Scalable edge devices with Ubuntu Core and Ubuntu 26.04 LTS 

Alongside support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, the partnership also brings support for Ubuntu Core, Canonical’s fully containerized, immutable operating system designed specifically for IoT and edge embedded devices. By using Ubuntu Core on the CIX P1, developers can deploy strictly confined solutions that feature seamless over-the-air (OTA) updates – ideal for remote AI agent boxes, robotics, and industrial applications.
