It’s Here: Meet the New IBM Apptio Report Studio – A Faster, More Intuitive Approach to Reporting - Apptio
Mohammad Azharuddin · 2026-04-10 · via Apptio

Last month, we shared our vision for modernizing reporting across IBM Apptio, focused on reducing friction and helping teams more effectively communicate financial insights and the business value of their IT and enterprise investments.

We are excited to announce that today that vision is here.

The new IBM Apptio Report Studio is now generally available, delivering a fully modernized reporting experience designed to make it faster and easier to build, customize, share financial insights, and communicate the value of IT and enterprise investments.

Largely inspired by direct customer feedback, the new IBM Apptio Report Studio represents one of the most significant investments in reporting across the IBM Apptio platform. This modernization simplifies the entire reporting workflow, helping teams spend less time building reports and more time using them to clearly understand, communicate, and demonstrate the value of IT.

A Faster, More Streamlined Reporting Experience

At the center of the new Report Studio is a more visual, intuitive way to design and build reports.

With a drag-and-drop canvas and flexible components, including KPIs, tables, slicers, and more, users can create and refine reports more naturally. Searchable, draggable metrics make it easier to find and apply the right data, while streamlined editing and formatting panels reduce the need to navigate across multiple menus.

Layout tools such as gridlines, snap-to-grid alignment, and responsive viewing modes provide precision without adding complexity, enabling teams to move quickly from initial analysis to polished output.

The result is a modernized workflow that enables teams to build reports 30% faster than with the legacy Report Studio.

Early customer feedback highlights the impact of this more intuitive experience:

The updated IBM Apptio Report Studio is easy to use and provides a more intuitive way to work with reports. The overall interface feels modern and aesthetically pleasing, creating a more engaging experience for users.

Built for Broader Adoption and Scale

As reporting expands across teams and use cases, usability and governance become increasingly important.

The new IBM Apptio Report Studio improves how reports are organized and managed, with structured folders that display ownership, status, and last modified details. Breadcrumb navigation makes it easier to move through complex, multi-level reports, helping teams stay aligned and efficient.

A cleaner interface and simplified workflows make reporting easier to learn and easier to use, not only for admins, but also for a broader range of report consumers across IT, finance, and the business.

Accessibility is built in as well, with 508-compliant alt text, in-app guidance, and alignment to the IBM Carbon Design System to support a more consistent and inclusive experience.

A wide variety of out-of-the-box reports are also available to help teams get started quickly and begin realizing value faster.

Richer Visualizations and More Interactive Insight

Richer Visualizations - It’s Here: Meet the New IBM Apptio Report Studio – A Faster, More Intuitive Approach to Reporting - Apptio

The new IBM Apptio Report Studio strengthens how teams explore and communicate IT financial insights.

The experience supports a broad set of visualizations, including charts, KPIs, and tables, allowing users to tailor insights to different audiences and use cases. Users can easily switch between compatible visualization types and drill into underlying data without leaving the report.

Capabilities like PDF export and Report Collections simplify how insights are packaged and shared, making it easier to deliver clear, consistent reporting across stakeholders.

Looking ahead, additional visualization capabilities are already on the roadmap, including Sankey diagrams, bubble charts, geospatial visualizations, financial waterfall and heat maps, further expanding how teams can analyze and communicate IT value.

A Foundation for What’s Next

The new Report Studio provides the foundation for the next wave of innovation across reporting and AI, including AI-powered data classification and normalization to reduce manual mapping and improve cost allocation accuracy, as well as AI-powered Conversational Insights that unify financial, operational, and organizational data so users can ask, not search, and get value even faster.

As these capabilities continue to evolve, they will help make IT financial management more intuitive, more proactive, more impactful, and more valuable.

Getting Started and Migrating to the New Report Studio

Customers can get started by upgrading to the latest supported release (12.11.21) and launching the new experience directly from the blue “Open IBM Apptio Report Studio” button.

To support the transition, IBM Apptio also introduces the IBM Apptio Report Migration Assistant, which helps customers move existing reports from the classic Report Studio to the new experience. The migration process is largely automated, with the ability to carry over >90% of report components, data configurations, and layouts, allowing teams to transition efficiently while maintaining continuity. While most structural elements are preserved, formatting (colors, fonts, styling, themes) will not fully carry over and will require adjustments made by the user in the new Report Studio.

We encourage customers to begin exploring the new Report Studio and continue sharing feedback as we expand capabilities over time.

Looking Ahead

The new IBM Apptio Report Studio is also a transformative step in our broader strategy to simplify and modernize how customers consume insight across IBM Apptio.

As we look ahead, this modernization sets the stage for continued innovation across reporting and AI, from intelligent data classification and normalization to Conversational Insights that make it easier to access and act on IT data.

As part of this evolution, it is important to note that the classic Report Studio will reach end of life on December 31, 2027. After this date, existing classic Report Studio reports will no longer be accessible.

To support this transition, the Report Migration Assistant helps customers efficiently move existing reports to the new experience by automatically migrating key components, data configurations, and layouts, allowing teams to transition with confidence and minimal disruption. Customers can explore the new experience alongside their existing reports and migrate at their own pace ahead of the end of life. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Apptio account teams.

We’ll continue to share additional details on migration timelines, guidance, and best practices to ensure a smooth path forward.
