InformationWeek Podcast: CTOs on using AI in regulated spaces
Joao-Pierre S. Ruth · 2026-05-19 · via informationweek

Not every sector can rush to use every AI tool under the sun. Pressure to deploy AI to remain competitive can collide with regulatory rules. The handling of data, in particular, already falls under increasingly stringent state, national and international policies.

Adding AI to the equation can raise questions that are not easy to answer, especially when the technology might behave in unexpected ways.

In this episode of the InformationWeek Podcast, Mike Tria, CTO of Gusto, and Joshua Foltz, CISO of NerdWallet, share how they navigate the use of AI as their companies aim to remain in compliance.

NerdWallet is a personal finance app and website. Gusto is a provider of online HR services. Both work with sensitive information and, potentially, transactions that call for adherence to strict guidelines.

Tria and Foltz also discuss in the episode how they tailor their AI use to comply with guardrails in their sectors, their vetting processes before deploying third-party AI, and whether they develop in-house AI resources to support compliance.
