The year will see a boom in generic versions of semaglutide, the active ingredient in diabetes/ weight-loss drug Ozempic/Wegovy, as some patents on the product expire in different parts of the world.

Escalating healthcare costs are putting governments across the world under pressure, and a shortage of skilled healthcare workers adds to the strain. War and strife in different regions, and the global funding squeeze has also put several multilateral healthcare programmes at risk.
