Samsung unveils Galaxy Z TriFold with a 10-inch display
By Team Technophile · 2025-12-04 · via Technophile News | The HinduBusinessLine

Samsung Electronics has launched the Galaxy Z TriFold, a foldable smartphone featuring a dual-folding 10-inch display, when completely unfolded. The device is designed to offer both a portable phone experience when folded and a larger workspace when open.

Hardware features

The Galaxy Z TriFold measures 3.9 millimetres at its thinnest point and weighs 309 grams. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite mobile platform for Galaxy, supports up to 16 GB of RAM, and comes with either 512GB or 1TB of internal storage. The rear camera setup includes a 200-megapixel wide camera, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. The front-facing cameras on the cover and main screen are both 10 megapixels.

Battery capacity is listed at 5,600 mAh, distributed across three cells in the device’s foldable panels. This is also the largest battery packed in any Samsung foldable till date. The brand said that the device supports 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

Software features

When fully unfolded, the 10-inch main display can operate as three side-by-side apps, offering a larger workspace for multitasking. Professionals can review documents, draft emails, and run video calls simultaneously, while creatives can sketch, edit photos, and reference materials all on one screen. For entertainment, the large display offers an uninterrupted viewing experience for movies and videos. The phone also supports Samsung DeX, enabling a desktop-like experience with up to four workspaces and extended use with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Samsung has integrated AI features, including Galaxy AI and Gemini Live, which can assist with photo editing, multitasking, and contextual queries directly on the larger screen. For media consumption, the phone features a Dynamic 2X AMOLED cover screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, offering peak brightness of 2,600 nits on the cover screen and 1,600 nits on the main display.

Durability

The folding mechanism uses two hinges of different sizes with a dual-rail structure, which the company said allows for smooth opening and closing. The device’s main display includes a reinforced overcoat on a shock-absorbing layer to withstand repeated folding. Materials used in the frame include a titanium hinge housing and an aluminium alloy for added rigidity, while the back panel is made of a ceramic-glass fibre-reinforced polymer.

Concerns

While there’s a lot of excitement around this expanded form factor, there are also some concerns. Given that foldable phones depend on hinge mechanisms and flexible displays, durability could be a concern. Repair costs and fragility tend to be higher than for conventional slab phones. Also, a phone this size, and this heavy, might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The Galaxy Z TriFold will be available in Korea from December 12, 2025, followed by other markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, the UAE, and the US. Samsung plans to offer a six-month trial of Google AI Pro and a one-time 50 per cent discount on display repairs for consumers who buy this device. There is no India availability announced yet.
