Every office has them. The perfect employee who meets all KRA scores and difficult to fault. They rarely go beyond the brief or job description and usually deliver on all counts. Motorola’s new smartphone reminded me of such colleagues; we’ve all worked with them at some point. The Edge 70 Pro+ lands in the sub ₹50,000 segment, the zone of flagship killers, where users want a smartphone that looks premium and gives them bragging rights (especially with the display and camera).

The Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ is a follow up to the brand’s Edge 70 Pro that debuted in April 2026. It builds on the elegant design language with a few key enhancements. Do these upgrades justify the premium (approximately ₹8,000) for the Pro+? That might well depend on what matters to you.

Design

I think that Motorola’s mid-premium smartphones are among the best designed. That’s also because I have a predilection for slinky phones. Motorola has typically managed this with good weight distribution and an emphasis on fit and finish. The Edge 70 Pro+ is under 7mm thin, weighs 190 gm and feels every inch premium. The device comes in a choice of three colour ways, designed in collaboration with Pantone that has resulted in a unique range of shades and textures over the last couple of years.

We checked out the Zinfandel, a deep wine-red that pays tribute to California’s signature grape. Both the other colour options — Chicory Coffee and Stormy Sea with its twill-inspired textures are also easy to recommend. True to its name you get a display with an edgeless appearance and Motorola’s trademark plateau-style camera module. Despite its delicate form, the device comes with IP68 and IP69 ratings along with MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification for shock-proofing. Motorola would like us to believe that this device is ready for your everyday adventures.

Display

This might well be Motorola’s party trick, but the Edge 70 Pro+ makes a big impression when you switch the phone on with a vibrant splash of colours and the Hello Moto branding that might actually remind you of those ‘dummy’ devices you find at a retail store. This is one area where the Edge 70 Pro+ shines (literally) and goes beyond expectations in this segment, even those ‘play safe’ employees overperform in some areas. The Edge 70 Pro+ flaunts a vibrant 6.8-inch, 1.5K quad-curved Extreme AMOLED display (1272 x 2772 pixels) with a 144Hz refresh rate.

This Corning Glass 7i display is Pantone validated and hits a peak brightness of 5200 nits. Colours are gorgeous and visibility is excellent in all lighting scenarios. I watched Drishyam 3 on Amazon Prime Video, the Edge 70 Pro+ brought the verdant Kerala landscapes to life. The quad curved form also adds to the display’s edge-to-edge appeal. Like most other smartphones the 144Hz refresh rate is exclusive to select games and yet the 120Hz refresh rate keeps things incredibly smooth for everyday scrolling and tasks. You get a choice of three colour options — Natural, Radiant and Vivid. While I opted for the Vivid option, this might well boil down to personal preferences.

Performance

The Moto Edge 70 Pro+ is certainly not billed as a performance beast. If you’re a heavy duty user looking for options at this price point, you might find devices from OnePlus or iQOO that fit the bill. The Edge 70 Pro+ is no pushover. At its heart is a MediaTek 8,500 Extreme chipset complemented by 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It’s geared for intense gaming and multi-tasking and consistently notched scores above 6,400 in our Geekbench (multi-core) benchmark tests.

The Edge 70 Pro+ runs on Hello UI which is one of the more cleaner versions of Android 16 with a visually pleasing aesthetic. I wish the device didn’t come with so many pre-installed apps. Motorola might have missed a trick with its Android OS update policy. The device only offers three years of Android updates and five years of security updates.

Battery

Motorola manages to squeeze a 6,500 mAh battery despite the slim form. The battery lasted a day on most occasions with moderate to heavy camera usage and video streaming. This is another area where the Edge 70 Pro+ may not be the leader in the category but doesn’t let you down. Motorola has bundled this device with a 90W in-box (TurboPower) charger that typically powers this device in under 75 minutes. Wireless charging (the device also offers a reverse wireless charging option) is a thoughtful add-on in this price segment and gives it an edge over many of its rivals.

Camera

Versatile. That’s probably the best description of the rear shooter on the Edge 70 Pro+ that covers most key bases. You get a 50MP primary sensor with OIS and a 50MP ultrawide sensor that also doubles up as a macro lens. The other key string in the bow is the 50MP periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom. It’s not just great for long-range shots but adds a great dimension to portraits with good edge separation. This periscope lens is one of the key differences between the Moto Edge 70 Pro and the 70 Pro+. The ultra-wide lens (usually a weak link for many smartphones in this price range) also delivers in most shooting scenarios. The Edge 70 Pro+ is not afraid of the dark with balanced results that don’t overdo the noise reduction. Some users might find that the images are too vivid but that’s not a bad thing for your social feed.

Verdict

It’s easy to recommend the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ if you’re looking at a smartphone that ticks all key boxes at a sub ₹50,000 price tag. Just like that perfect employee, it’s not easy to pick holes, except for its Android update policy. This is a device that looks polished, comes with a vivid display and snaps sharp images and portraits. Most of all it’s the form factor that sets it apart.
