









Dell’s Alienware brand has long served as the company’s premium gaming line, both for laptops and desktops, ever since its acquisition by Dell in 2006. Known for combining powerful hardware with a premium price tag, Alienware continues this tradition with the latest addition, the Aurora 16, which seeks to position itself a step above Dell’s mainstream G-series laptops. I had the opportunity to review the Aurora 16, and here are my observations.
The Alienware Aurora 16 features an Interstellar Indigo finish with a sturdy build. The laptop maintains a relatively slim profile for its class, measuring 0.89 inches thick. At around 2.57 kg, it is not lightweight, but it remains lighter than the Alienware Area‑51 previously reviewed, which weighed close to 5 kg with its charger included.
The lid is made of anodised aluminium with an iridescent Alienware logo and magnesium alloy interior frame. Most components feel well-finished, with rounded edges and a matte rear surface, although the latter is prone to visible smudges. Overall, the design balances durability with portability, making the laptop suitable for both desk-bound use and travel.
The Aurora 16 laptop features a 16‑inch WQXGA matte display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a peak brightness of 300 nits and full sRGB coverage. It also includes ComfortView Plus technology, which reduces eye strain, making it suitable for gaming, reading and watching films.
Out of the box, the colour fidelity was well‑balanced for media consumption, particularly while watching Pro Bono on Netflix, where skin tones, locations, and scenes appeared natural . The anti-glare panel effectively minimised reflections and also proved capable for creative tasks, offering up to 100 per cent sRGB and 98 per cent DCI-P3 colour coverage, which positions it as a competent mid-range option for video editing.
Audio on the Alienware Aurora 16 is handled by stereo speakers driven by the Realtek AL3204 audio controller, delivering a combined output of 4W (2W × 2). The sound quality is adequate for everyday consumption, such as listening to Oorum Blood from the Tamil film Dude and its various versions on Spotify. Sound from the top speaker panel near the display is respectable, though the downward‑facing side tweeters can at times lack the bass depth needed to make this a truly immersive multimedia experience.
During gameplay, audio performance was notably better, particularly in first-person shooters, where footstep cues and ambient sounds were reproduced with reasonable clarity. As a result, the speakers were adequate for gaming and did not immediately necessitate the use of headphones during the review period.
The laptop also features dual-array microphones that deliver average audio pickup during gaming and voice calls, with clarity that is adequate but unremarkable. Paired with a 720p webcam, the setup is sufficient for video calls, although the camera produces a somewhat grainy image, as expected at this resolution.
The Alienware Aurora 16 offers a well‑rounded selection of ports. On the left side, there is a USB‑A 5 Gbps port, an Ethernet port and a combined audio jack. The rear houses a DC‑in port, an HDMI 2.1 port, two USB‑C ports with DisplayPort and an additional USB‑A port. While support for DisplayPort over USB‑C 3.2 is a welcome inclusion, it would have been even better if the laptop allowed charging its battery through USB‑C when connected to an external monitor.
The keyboard is a pleasure to type on, offering good key travel, tactile feedback, and a white backlight. Dell has managed to include a full number pad, though the direction arrow keys and page navigation keys are compressed in the classic layout. It took a short while to adjust to this slightly cramped design, but over time it became comfortable and intuitive, whether typing during this review or strafing in Counter‑Strike 2. The touchpad is tactile, responsive and feels significantly more premium than the budget-grade plastic ones found in this price bracket.
The Alienware Aurora 16 is powered by the Intel Core 7 240H processor, delivering strong performance across demanding tasks thanks to its 10‑core CPU, clocking up to 5.20 GHz with a 24 MB cache. Paired with the NVIDIA RTX 5060 GPU featuring 8 GB of GDDR7 memory, it handles workloads, gaming, and creative projects with ease, supported by 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. The Core 7 240H lacks the newer AI NPU capabilities now common in mainstream, gaming and ultrabook laptops.
In CineBench R24, the laptop achieved a score of 96 in single‑core and 796 in multi‑core performance, outperforming the Intel Core i7‑1280P (74) and the Apple M1 Max (791) in the respective categories. Cooling performance was average in terms of noise under performance mode during gaming and benchmarking, but the fans kept temperatures well under control thanks to the cryo-chamber cooling. Heat was noticeable around the side exhausts and near the speaker panel at the display hinge, while the keyboard area remained cool, a welcome advantage during extended use.
In real‑world gaming, the Aurora 16 delivered a consistent 120+ FPS in Counter‑Strike 2 with high texture details and reduced settings elsewhere, making it well‑suited to the FPS genre. Fan noise in boost mode could become loud, though not enough to drown out team communications in CS2 or Valorant. In Cyberpunk 2077, the system managed around 100 FPS with most settings on high, using a mix of DLSS and ray tracing at low to medium levels. This positions the Aurora 16 as a capable mid‑range gaming laptop, balancing performance and efficiency.
The Alienware Command Center software allows for switching between the various power profiles - battery, balanced, quiet, performance and overdrive. The software also allows users to customise performance profiles on a per-game basis, remap the F1, F2 and F3 function keys as macro keys, and adjust Dolby audio profiles, among other settings.
The Alienware Aurora 16 has a 96 Whr six-cell battery. This capacity is quite standard for most 16-inch laptops and lasts between 7-9 hours on light usage, including web-browsing, writing reviews, and occasionally watching videos, and about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours 30 minutes with a mix of medium to heavy usage such as gaming and video editing, which is quite good for a gaming laptop. Charging using the supplied 180 W barrel pin charger took about 2 hours.
The Alienware Aurora 16 makes a strong entry into the mid-range gaming segment, traditionally dominated by models such as the HP Victus and Asus TUF series. It boasts a great display, good mid-range performance, and capable hardware, giving it a competitive edge, though a little overpriced.
Its primary drawback is the limited choice of processor, RAM and GPU configurations. Competing models, such as the HP Victus and Asus TUF Gaming series, offer a far wider range of options—often more than ten configurations—compared with the Aurora 16’s two or three.
Even so, the Aurora 16 successfully delivers Alienware’s premium design and performance at a more accessible price point, making it a noteworthy option for mainstream gamers and expanding the brand’s reach to a wider audience.
