Vivo X300 Pro review: Snap, scroll, zoom - without breaki...

Vivo has steadily strengthened its foothold in the premium camera smartphone space, and the X300 Pro continues that momentum. Building on the success of the X200 Pro, this latest flagship promises more than just impressive specs on paper—it aims to deliver a well-rounded experience with a vibrant display, versatile cameras, and flagship-grade performance. After spending some time with the device, it’s clear that Vivo has crafted a phone that caters not only to photography enthusiasts but also to users who demand speed, smoothness, and reliability in daily use.

Design

The Vivo X300 Pro has a slim profile, measuring 161.98 × 75.48 × 7.99 mm, with a flat display and gently rounded edges that make it comfortable to hold and use. The only real design quibble is the large circular camera module, which protrudes noticeably when the phone is placed on a flat surface. It’s also where much of the phone’s 226 g weight feels concentrated, giving the device a slightly top-heavy balance.

The X300 Pro features an armour glass front, an aluminium alloy frame, and a glass back. The frosted glass finish on the Dune Gold variant I reviewed does a good job of resisting fingerprints, though the display itself tends to pick up smudges quickly. The black camera module is particularly prone to fingerprints, often needing me to quickly wipe down the lenses before taking photos.

Display

The Vivo X300 Pro is equipped with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 1.5K+ resolution of 2800 × 1260 pixels. It uses a capacitive multi-touch panel and supports an adaptive LTPO refresh rate that scales from 1 Hz to 120 Hz, depending on usage.

Watching Stranger Things: Season 3 on the expansive screen was a genuinely enjoyable experience. Colours appear bright and well-balanced, skin tones look natural, and contrast holds up particularly well during the show’s darker night-time scenes. The AMOLED panel also shines when reviewing photos and videos, bringing out fine details and rich colour without appearing overprocessed.

On the audio front, the X300 Pro’s stereo speakers are competent but not class-leading. While listening to Ishq Jalakar from Durandhar on Spotify, the speakers delivered adequate volume and a decent stereo spread across the room, with vocals coming through clearly. That said, the sound lacks depth and layering, especially in more complex tracks. The audio experience feels slightly more refined while streaming content on Netflix, where dialogue remains clear, and background sounds are better balanced.

Camera

The Vivo X300 Pro boasts a versatile triple rear camera setup. It combines a 50 MP Sony LYT-828 primary sensor with OIS, a wide f/1.57 aperture, and CIPA 5.5 stabilisation; a 50 MP ultra-wide JN1 camera with autofocus, a 119-degree field of view, and f/2.0 aperture; and a 200 MP telephoto lens with OIS, f/2.67 aperture, and 3.5x optical zoom.

On paper, these specs impress—and in practice, they thankfully live up to the promise. Rear shots are sharp, with excellent colour accuracy and fine detail, even when zoomed beyond 3.5x. Image clarity holds up well up to 5–6x, and while Vivo offers a Zeiss 2.35x telephoto extender as an optional accessory, the 200 MP telephoto lens alone delivers stellar performance, maintaining crisp photo quality at longer ranges.

Low-light performance is equally commendable. Night shots retain strong detail, with minimal noise and faithful colour reproduction, making them suitable for more than just social media posts—even prints fare well.

Selfies from the 50 MP front camera are detailed and natural, capturing skin tones and textures accurately, ideal for casual snaps and scenic shots alike.

Performance

The Vivo X300 Pro is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 chipset, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage—hardware that firmly places it in flagship territory.

On Geekbench 6, the X300 Pro posted a single-core score of 3,372 and a multi-core score of 10,158, comfortably outperforming rivals such as the Galaxy S24 Ultra with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (2,136 and 6,675) and the Galaxy S24+ (2,057 and 6,571). These results underline that the X300 Pro has all the credentials to be a true performance flagship, and not just a camera-centric device.

Software bloat is minimal, limited largely to the occasional e-warranty prompt. The phone runs OriginOS 16 based on Android 16, and day-to-day usage remains smooth throughout. With this amount of RAM on tap, I encountered no noticeable stutters or lag during the review period.

Vivo’s AI features are scattered across apps such as Notes—where tools such as rewriting and grammar checks are available—and Albums, which includes object removal, an AI upscaler, AI Image Frame for generative expansion, and AI colour adjustment. While these features work as advertised, the results can be inconsistent. Object removal sometimes leaves visible artefacts, and colour adjustments tend to oversaturate images. Functional, yes—but generative AI on the X300 Pro still feels like a work in progress rather than a polished editing tool that I’d reach out for every day.

Battery

The Vivo X300 Pro is backed by a 6,510 mAh (typical) Li-ion battery and supports 90W FlashCharge fast charging. In day-to-day usage, it lasted close to 1.5 days with a mix of calls, camera and videos, browsing videos, light photos and videos and more with an average SOT of close to 7.5 hours. The supplied 90 W charger helped the phone to 50 per cent in around 20-25 minutes and to a full 100 per cent in around 60 minutes.

Verdict

The X300 Pro sets a high standard for camera phones with its stellar imaging capabilities, vibrant display, solid multimedia experience, and dependable battery life. Its heft and average heat management during extended photo or video sessions are minor drawbacks.

Against rivals such as the Oppo Find X9 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S25, and Apple iPhone 17 Pro, the X300 Pro holds its ground as a top-tier camera smartphone—while packing enough performance punch to match its imaging prowess.
