Girls Like Girls is a feature length expansion of Hayley Kiyoko’s song and music video that she previously adapted into a book in 2023. Myra Molloy and Maya da Costa star as a girl named Coley and her more popular crush Sonya, respectively. Now that Kiyoko’s movie is finally out in the world, here’s everything you need to know to watch and stream Girls Like Girls.
The movie is in theaters starting June 19, 2026. If you are able to support a smaller romance, and a queer one at that, in cinemas this Pride Month… please try! Not to guilt you, or anything, but it would be really cool! Regardless, I’m going to give you other options. But still!
Focus Features, the film’s distributer, has a deal to send its films to Peacock and/or Netflix. One recent release, Hamnet, is on Peacock. Another, Bugonia, is on Netflix.
It typically takes about four months for a movie to go from its theatrical release, PVOD streaming window, to a streaming service. But we might see Girls Like Girls on Peacock or Netflix before October. Some recent Focus Features releases, like The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist and Lorne from April and May of 2026 are already on Peacock in June. We’ll just have to keep our ears to the ground and see.
If you are interested in girls (who) like girls and haven’t seen Donna Dietch’s 1985 romance Desert Hearts put that on your list and prep for yearning ASAP. Some other picks–which range from offbeat to tragic–include Alice Wu’s Saving Face, Susannah Fogel’s Life Partners, Jacqueline Audry’s Olivia, and Cheryl Dunye’s The Watermelon Women. Did you notice that all of those were directed by women, too? Did you see what I did there? What, like it’s hard?
