Put two—actually three—of the coolest, most hyped names of the moment together across music, movies, and TV. Because that’s exactly what you’ll see in Sombr’s cinematic masterpiece of a music video for his new song, “My Body Isn’t Ready.”

The video not only delicately explores the fear of being judged, but brings together two of Hollywood’s rising actors: Josh Heuston, one of the heartthrobs in the hit series Off Campus, and Obsession breakout star, Inde Navarrette. The mix of these two talents, together with Sombr’s presence, manages to create an intriguing atmosphere that’s melancholic and fascinating at the same time.

The video’s story takes place entirely during a party. Sombr finds himself in the middle of the chaos but feels very uncomfortable, even ending up being mocked by a group of guys, including the character played by Josh. To defend himself from this embarrassing situation and to escape other people’s stares, the singer decides to literally hide under a papier-mâché structure. In this way, he starts walking among the party guests as if he were an inanimate mannequin, invisible and isolated from everything around him.

The turning point comes when Inde’s character notices him. Instead of ignoring him or walking away as the others do, she decides to approach him very gently. With simple gestures and understanding, she helps him break through this protective shell and show himself for who he truly is.

Sombr’s lyrics directly address a complicated topic: the relationship with one’s body, self-perception, and the invisible pressures people feel when trying to be comfortable in their own skin. In the chorus, the singer clearly expresses the contrast between the desire to be close to someone and the emotional block one feels when looking in the mirror.

“I hope this song can mean different things to different people,” Sombr, whose real name is Shane Boose, wrote when the video dropped on Thursday, June 25. “It can be taken as a metaphor. Or it can be taken literally as a description of how I have perceived my own body, for my whole life. I wanted to write about my struggle so that other people who may also be struggling know that they are not alone. You are beautiful, and I love you.”

The track also comes ahead of his upcoming performance at Lollapalooza and before he kicks off his headlining You Are The Reason Arena Tour. The slew of shows starts in Mexico City and wraps at his hometown’s iconic arena, Madison Square Garden, in New York City. Sombr will be joined by supporting acts like King Princess, Interpol, The Last Dinner Party, and Tom Odell this summer and fall.
