What I really, really want? Mel C. on Blind Date, baby! We have tons of icons in the studio, but it’s not every day Willa gets to sit across from a member of the literal best-selling girl group of all time. The guessing process keeps getting faster and faster these days. First, Mel’s British accent managed to shine through the voice disguiser. When she revealed her status as a ‘90s celeb, Willa threw out Britney and Madonna, which earned her some brownie points before the date even began. Finally, in a Blind Date first, Mel hummed one of her hits (“Wannabe”), which quickly sealed the deal. Viva Sporty Spice!
Anyway: reader questions. We learned that Mel is really into KATSEYE and singer-songwriter Rose Gray, and loves that pop music has evolved to allow the presence of other genres. She also revealed the origins of the Spice Girls’ girl-power-heavy message: a man who told them they would never measure up to a boy band. I wonder where he is now! Mel and Willa also got deep about the Hannah/Miley vibes of being Sporty Spice and reconciling that persona with Mel’s off-stage personality. She reflects on past partners, including the ones that probably just wanted to date a celebrity, and her current, lovely one, whom she met on Raya (proof of concept for the dating app girls). I personally loved hearing about how her daughter realized that she was a global superstar. You will, too, once you watch the episode, of course. Oh, and if you were wondering: If you want to be her lover, you do have to get approval from her friends (and her mom, duh).
Willa pulled out an April 2012 issue of Cosmo, which took Mel right back to closing out the London Olympics. I still get chills thinking about a time when One Direction was performing as a group of five. Sigh, the good life. Mel gave great takes on how to react if your partner is chatting on a sex forum, how to tell a boyfriend you’d like to get more compliments, and whether you invite your situationship to your birthday party. One thing’s for sure: She absolutely does not trust anyone holding on to things from their previous relationships. Let. It. Go. During the Love Audit, we got even more gems. Big age gaps? Fine. Can good sex carry a relationship? Nope. And, according to Mel, you may have different soulmates for different chapters of your life. Beautiful! As always, happy watching. Meet back here next week?
