Looks like all the rumors are true. Specifically, the rumors that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce will be hosting their wedding—or at least a wedding-related celebration—at Madison Square Garden over July 4 weekend.
While entertainment outlets have largely been reporting on the wedding up until now, The New York Times just entered the chat and revealed that “a permit was filed with New York City to close the streets around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to midday July 4 for an event on July 3.”
Three people “who have knowledge of the matter” confirmed this, and one person revealed that “several members” of the Kansas City Chiefs have booked hotel rooms at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square during this time frame. On top of that, event company Winick Productions filed an application to set up a tent outside the arena in early June, and said it expected 500 to 999 guests, while Amtrak police officers “have been told to expect a Swift wedding the weekend of July 4.”
Oh! And! A city official confirmed that MSG is “planning to host the wedding festivities on July 3.”
As for MSG being a somewhat unusual wedding venue, it actually has some major perks for someone as famous as Taylor. There aren’t windows (which means paps can’t snap pics), there’s built-in security, it’s a major event space that’s used to street-closure permits and massive events, and there’s underground parking and building access—which means guests can arrive in relative secrecy. In other words, this wedding might actually be super private, despite being in the middle of Manhattan.
