Hello to everyone still thinking about the way that Emma D’Arcy said, “A negroni. Sbagliato. With prosecco in it.” (How many times have I watched that video? The limit does not exist!) With House of the Dragon season 3 finally here, it’s time to once again wonder whether Emma D’Arcy is single…and unfortunately, the answer appears to be no.

While the actor keeps their personal life very much on the down-low, they’ve seemingly been dating director Thomas May Bailey for years now—and based on the kiss that Emma and Thomas shared on the red carpet at the House of the Dragon season 3 premiere, the two are still going strong!

So…who is Thomas and how did his romance with Emma begin? Let’s get into it!

Thomas is a director and screenwriter

After spending eight years as a theater director, Thomas began a career in film back in 2020 (per his website), becoming a co-director at Second Name Productions. His first short film, The Talent, was nominated for the 2023 BIFA for Best British Short…and that film just so happens to star Emma.

When asked about working with Emma during an interview with Directors Notes, Thomas said, “Emma and I very much created and built the role of Tommy together. They were a producer on the project, which meant that from its earliest conception, they were giving feedback on the script and I would discuss everything with them. We very much built this character from the ground up together.”

He and Emma have been collaborating since 2011

The Talent wasn’t the first time that Thomas and Emma worked together. As Thomas revealed to Directors Notes, “Emma was first in a play I directed in 2011, and we’ve been working together since. We had a theatre company together and shifted roles over the years. We’ve co-directed together, co-written together and co-devised.”

He added, “Often I’m directing them because they’re just such an unbelievably good actor, and it’s stupid not to put them in stuff.”

It’s unclear when things turned romantic for Emma and Thomas, but it seems they’ve been together since at least the start of House of the Dragon. (For the record: Emma referenced their “partner” during 2022 interviews with GQ, The Hollywood Reporter, and Entertainment Weekly—and though they didn’t name names, I’m preeetty convinced they were referring to Thomas.)

Fans really began to suspect something was going on after Thomas joined Emma at the season 1 premiere, as evidenced by their Instagram:

Oh, and a few months after that, Thomas accompanied Emma to the Golden Globes.

And most recently, Thomas joined Emma for the HotD season 3 premiere (swipe for cuteness):

Over the years, the two have offered brief snippets into their relationship on Instagram (and were even papped in London together back in summer 2024), but largely, they keep their relationship out of the limelight. And honestly? Good for them!!
