Spoilers for Euphoria season 3 below!

Though the season finale of Euphoria has been out for a few days now, the internet is still spiraling about the fate of Zendaya’s beloved character, Rue Bennett.

Rue has suffered through a lot over the years, from grieving the loss of her dad to working undercover for the DEA while also working for notorious pimp/cowboy Alamo Brown. Of everything she had survived—including addiction and essentially being an outlaw as she ran away from angry criminals—her fate ultimately led to her dying from a fentanyl-laced pill given to her by Alamo and being found by her sponsor, Ali.

While Zendaya herself hasn’t said much about the show’s finale (much less the third season in general…), her mom, Claire Stoermer, has actually reacted to Rue’s unfortunate ending. On Monday, June 1, Z’s mom posted a statement to her Instagram Stories about the whole thing, writing, “Lots of messages in my DM’s from people about last night’s episode. I’m gonna keep my thoughts to myself.”

She continued, “Definitely made me sad….and other emotions as well. But just gonna leave it right there……”

Her response comes after Zendaya appeared to avoid the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, at the season 3 premiere back in April. Over the years, reports surrounding a rumored feud between Zendaya and Sam had surfaced due to major production delays on the show’s third season.

ICYMI, she initially grew close to him during the first season of the HBO hit, as Rue is loosely based on his own story of being a recovering addict. But, according to a 2024 report from The Hollywood Reporter, their friendship had “cooled” as they allegedly experienced tension during production on the show’s third season.

And, though Zendaya served as executive producer for Euphoria’s first two seasons, she reportedly stepped down from the role during the last season. Per one of THR’s insiders, Sam “began to resent her…as she pulled away.”

Take this all with a grain of salt, as none of it has been confirmed or denied—but Sam and HBO have confirmed that this was the series finale of Euphoria, per Variety.
