Ciara spoke to People about her love for fashion last year, saying “Make a statement with whatever you do when it comes to fashion. I am such a tomboy. I’m forever a tomboy.”

More recently, she told Jennifer Hudson on The Jennifer Hudson Show, “My grandmother’s probably my biggest inspiration. She always had her own seamstress, she was always about the detail. She loved making outfits from scratch and she always walked into a room with the boldest personality and confidence. She was always big in the room.” She added, “I’m also a tomboy, I used to steal my dad’s clothes. He was in the military so I liked his army pants. I’m that girl.”
