Billie Eilish has been getting backlash for saying that “eating meat is inherently wrong,” and just released a statement in response to her critics.

To backtrack a moment, Billie was asked about what “hill she’d die on” by Elle, and said “Y’all not gonna like me for this one. Eating meat is inherently wrong. And then the other thing is, two things cannot coincide. ‘I love animals, I love all animals so much, and I eat meat.’ You just, you can’t do both. Sorry! You can eat meat, go for it. You can love animals. But you can’t do both.”

In response to backlash from people who don’t agree with this take, Billie shared videos of animals being mistreated and wrote “So stay fucking mad at ME. I really don’t give a goddamn fuck.”

She added, “Go watch a documentary or two and some footage of animals u claim to love and what it does to the planet you pretend to love as well. if that footage was hard for u to watch I encourage you to pls take a look at urself. like I am so tired of standing up for/having empathy for living beings being controversial. pls continue to live in a constant state of cognitive dissonance and denial and try to convince urself that ur not living a lie. mwah.”
