Last month, I flew 15 hours to Seoul—the mecca of K-beauty—with one goal: to get an inside look at Medicube’s newest iteration of its iconic Booster Pro skincare device. You probably know the Booster Pro as the viral beauty device that Hailey Bieber was spotted using a few years ago, but it’s also Korea’s best-selling skincare device thanks to its ability to maximize glow by helping skincare products penetrate more effectively. So when I was invited to spend a week with the brand learning about its latest innovations, I knew I was about to enter K-beautyheaven.

I spent five days immersed in all things Medicube at the brand’s Seoul headquarters. I attended a masterclass on exactly how to use the new Booster Pro X2, visited the brand’s flagship store in Seongsu (Seoul’s trendy shopping neighborhood filled with concept stores and boutiques), and even toured the factory where every Booster Pro is built from scratch, where they let me join in on the assembly line.

Needless to say, I now consider myself something of a Medicube expert. So let’s get into what makes the new Booster Pro X2 different. (And if you’re completely new to the device, you can read our fullreview here.)

The Booster Pro X2 now goes for $299 (compared to $229) and features seven treatment modes with corresponding LED. It’s designed to deliver a more intense experience than the OG, with six different levels that amp up the treatment as you go. Alongside the four original modes (booster mode, microcurrent mode, derma-shot mode, air shot mode), the X2 introduces three new settings: dual mode, mask mode, and AI mode.

Dual mode lets you combine two treatments at once, which is where things start to feel noticeably more advanced than the original version. You can essentially tailor your session depending on what your skin needs that day. My personal favorite combination is booster and microcurrent mode, helping my products penetrate deeper while also lifting the face and reducing any morning puffiness.

Mask mode can be used atop sheet masks, which the brand saw people doing on social media themselves, so they decided to make the device specifically functional for it. And then there’s AI mode, which uses the Medicube app to detect the best treatment for your skin. Instead of guessing which mode to use, it essentially builds a routine for you and guides you through the treatment.

Beyond the new settings, the overall experience of the device is more powerful, meaning each of the six levels is more impactful than the original Booster Pro. It lets your skincare go deeper, your facial muscles feel more activated, and overall delivers a more intense treatment experience. Since it’s more powerful, it may take some time to work up to the higher settings. Plus, the larger head size takes up more surface area on the skin, making application more efficient, especially across the full face and jawline.
