You can always count on Taylor Swift for two things: (1) to keep everyone clowning about the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and (2) to take her besties out to dinner post-breakup. In fact, some people didn’t even realize that Tay was friends with Zoë Kravitz until the two were spotted out to dinner following the end of Zoë's engagement to Channing Tatum back in late 2024.
And despite rumors that things have soured between T and Z amid Zoë’s romance with Harry Styles (with some even believing that Zoë didn’t score an invite to Taylor’s upcoming wedding!), insiders say things are all good between the two. As a reminder, the singer and the actress actually go way back, and I’ve got the friendship timeline to prove it, starting off when the two first became pals back in 2016 (though how they became friends is still a lil mysterious...).
Taylor and Zoë were spotted going out to dinner at NYC's The Fat Radish with a crew that included Cara Delevingne, Serena Williams, Dakota Johnson, Suki Waterhouse, and Karlie Kloss, among other members of Taylor's OG girl squad. Also present: Zoë's now-ex Karl Glusman.
Right before the coronavirus pandemic put her plans on standby, Zoë told Billboard she would like to record an album of her own...and she also revealed that she and Taylor share an interesting mutual friend: Jack Antonoff.
"I've been working with my friend Jack Antonoff in the studio," she said. "It's hard to get things consistently going, but when we have time we spend a few days here and there. My dream is to release an album by the end of the year." Interesting!!
It's unclear *exactly* how it happened, but apparently, Zoë decided to quarantine with Taylor and Joe Alwyn during the early days of the pandemic while she was filming The Batman in London. In an interview with WWD, NYT Mag editor-in-chief Jake Silverstein revealed that Taylor even helped out with Zoë's photo shoot for the December "Great Performers" issue.
"Zoë was being very strict about [social distancing guidelines] because she's shooting a movie," Jake told WWD. "And Taylor Swift was in her pod and willing to assist."
How it worked: Photographer Christopher Anderson directed Zoë remotely via laptop from his home in Paris while Taylor helped set up the shot and camera angles in person. And the result was preeeetty dreamy, IMO. Oh, and Christopher even gave Taylor credit for her help in an IG post from the shoot.
After it was announced that Taylor had won Album of the Year forFolkloreat the 2021 Grammys, Zoë took to Instagram to celebrate, posting a cute selfie of herself and Taylor to her Story.
Taylor gave Zoë a shoutout in her Instagram Story, praising her friend's performance in The Batman. "@zoeisabellakravitz IS THE CATWOMAN OF DREAMS," she wrote. "The Batman was PHENOMENAL!!!"
Soon after, both Taylor and Zoë attended the CAA Pre-Oscar party at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Hollywood, where they were seen tearing up the dance floor together.
When the credits for Taylor's Midnights album first appeared on iTunes, eagle-eyed fans noticed that Zoë was listed as a co-writer on the song "Lavender Haze."
It wasn't until an August 2024 interview with Esquire that Zoë revealed the *real* story behind her Midnights credit. Apparently, her contribution was from a track she'd previously written for herself with Jack Antonoff.
"Elements of that song got used," she told Esquire—and despite her protests, Taylor insisted on adding Zoë to the list of writers. Later, Zoë added, "She's very kind that way."
During an interview with GQ, Zoë opened up more about quarantining with Taylor during the pandemic.
"She was my pod," she explained. "She was a very important part of being in London, just having a friend that I could see and that would make me home-cooked meals and dinner on my birthday."
Taylor, in return, also gushed about Zoë: "Zoë's sense of self is what makes her such an exciting artist, and such an incredible friend," she told GQ. "She has this very honest inner compass, and the result is art and life without compromising who she is."
Zoë was photographed waiting to be let into Taylor's NYC apartment with then-boyfriend Channing Tatum.
Taylor and Zoë were among the many famous folks who attended Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley's rehearsal dinner at Black Whale Bar & Fish in Long Beach Island, New Jersey. Other A-listers included Cara Delevingne, Lana Del Rey, and Channing Tatum. And ofc, both attended Jack and Margaret's wedding the next day as well.
The two were photographed going to dinner at Sushi Park in West Hollywood along with Selena Gomez and Keleigh Teller.
Zoë's friend Sade Lythcott shared some cute "throwbacks" of Zoë celebrating her birthday alongside Taylor, though it's unclear if the pictures were taken the night before (Zoë's birthday is December 1) or the year before.
Soon after, Taylor and Zoë enjoyed a girls' night out in New York City at Brooklyn's Lucali pizza along with friends Selena Gomez, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Cara Delevingne.
And not long after that, Zoë helped Taylor celebrate her 34th birthday in NYC (and we've got the IG pics to prove it!).
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Zoë talked about watching her friend perform during her Eras Tour, calling her "scary talented." She later added, "But what is weirder to me is that after she performs for however many thousands of people that are, you know, she just comes over after and we drink some wine and eat a burger and hang out. You would just never know that she just performed at Wembley."
Later, she added, "There are a lot of famous people who don't let you forget that they're famous. They bring Wembley home with them if that makes sense. [Taylor] really just turns into a normal person. It's pretty crazy."
A day later, Taylor took to her IG Story to promote Zoë's directorial debut, Blink Twice, calling Zoë a "brilliant filmmaker."
Alongside a picture of the movie poster, she wrote, "This film is incredible. Thrilling, twisted, wickedly funny, and visually stunning. The performances are phenomenal. @zoeisabellakravitz conceptualized this, wrote it, obsessed over every detail, and directed it with such a clear and bold vision."
Following the news of Zoë's split from Channing, she and Taylor reportedly had an eight-hour dinner (!!) at the new private members' club Chez Margaux in NYC along with comedian Jerrod Carmichael. What I'd give to be a part of that debrief...
Zoë chatted with E! News about Taylor’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, saying, “I’ve heard some stuff, it’s fantastic. She always brings it. This is what she does. It’s fun to sit back and watch everyone devour what she makes and she cares so much. She puts everything she has into it.”
Soon after, during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Zoë revealed how she almost lost a snake in Tay’s home, where she stayed with her mom, Lisa Bonet, after being evacuated due to the L.A. fires.
Later, during her own appearance on Seth Meyers, Taylor said of the incident, “It just sounds incredible. I’m sad I didn’t see it…I can't even be mad.”
After Zoë seemingly started seeing Taylor’s ex Harry Styles, an Us Weekly source gave Taylor’s reported take on the romance, saying she “doesn’t have an issue” with it.
“Their relationship was so long ago,” the insider said. “Harry has moved on, and so has Taylor. They’re friendly when they see each other, which isn’t often but does happen occasionally. It’s all in the past now.”
An insider for DeuxMoi dropped a bombshell claiming T and Z’s friendship is “dunzo” and adding that Zoë was “actually mad” about not being invited to Taylor’s upcoming wedding.
However! Sources for People and Us Weekly were quick to shut those claims down, alleging that Zoë was, in fact, invited to the nuptials. So…case closed!
