Ariana Grande is truly out here thriving on her Eternal Sunshine Tour. She’s reunited with Arianators as she takes the stage in cities from Los Angeles to Austin, Texas, for the first time since her Sweetener World Tour in 2019. But, fans are totally convinced she might have reunited with someone else in the wake of her reported split from Ethan Slater: her ex, Ricky Alvarez.
During the June 25 stop on tour, Ari made a subtle change in her “Thank U, Next” lyrics, which feature a shoutout to Ricky. Instead of “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh,” she sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / And they still really slap.”
Of course, fans raised eyebrows at the moment because it’s been a minute since Ari has mentioned her ex, whom she briefly dated from 2015 to 2016. Aside from “Thank U, Next,” listeners have speculated that a few of her tracks from Dangerous Woman might also allude to her time with Ricky, including “Moonlight,” “True Love,” and “Knew Better / Forever Boy.”
That’s not all. According to sneaky snaps posted by fan account @infoari, Ariana was spotted sharing a meal with Ricky the day after she pulled her stunt on stage.
It’s important to note that this isn’t the first time Ari’s switched up the lyrics to her number one hit, either. During her performance at the 2020 Grammys, she swapped the bridge to reflect a reconciliation with her dad, Ed Butera, singing, “I’ll be thanking my dad, ’cause he’s really awesome,” instead of “I’ll be thanking my dad / ’Cause she grew from the drama.”
Ariana and Ricky previously appeared to keep things friendly for a few years after they split in 2016, so there’s a chance they were merely catching up as friends.
The Grammy winner has yet to address any dating rumors surrounding Ricky, if at all.
