After Supriya Ganesh won over fans as Dr. Samira Mohan on the first two seasons of HBO Max’s The Pitt, fans were ready for more next season. But according to a recent Variety report, Dr. Mohan’s time at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center has come to a close, as Supriya reportedly exited the show for season 3.

Supriya, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, has yet to acknowledge the reports regarding their fate on the award-winning series. But they did raise eyebrows when they announced they’d be pulling out of an upcoming public appearance with the rest of the cast at the Paley Center for Media’s PaleyFest in Hollywood, California.

“Hi everyone—not sure why it’s not removed off the site but I will not be at Paleyfest this Sunday,” they wrote on their Instagram Stories on Thursday, April 9.

They added, “I know some of you bought tickets to see me and I hope you know this is not a decision I take lightly. Love you all.”

According to the event’s official scheduling, part of The Pitt cast was set to watch a screening and take part in a conversation moderated by The Ringer’s Joanna Robinson on Sunday, April 12. At the time of this report, Supriya’s name is still on the listing alongside Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Taylor Dearden, and the show’s executive producer R. Scott Gemmill.

According to Variety’s report, Ayesha Harris was promoted to series regular for the show’s third season, while Supriya is exiting the show.

An “individual with knowledge of the situation” told the publication that Supriya’s exit is “a story-driven decision,” as Dr. Mohan was trying to figure out the next phase of her medical career after her residency at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center.

Back in January, Supriya exclusively told Cosmopolitan what other roles they might be interested in exploring after their breakout role on The Pitt.

“The Pitt is so realistic that I would love to do something that’s just absurd and weird. Maybe a horror or an art house indie movie,” they said at the time. “There’s so much for South Asian women to explore and do in this industry, and I think things are changing now, but there’s so much further to go. I just really want to break new ground in film and play a character that’s just really weird and interesting and very different from Samira.”

Supriya has yet to publicly acknowledge The Pitt’s season 3 casting shake-up, which was first reported by Variety.
