It seems like Alex Cooper may have more to worry about than her “passive-aggressive” feud with Alix Earle. According to a new Vanity Fair report (which was published two months after a similar exposé from Bloomberg), her Unwell Network business is reportedly still facing challenges behind closed doors.

Vanity Fair spoke to more than 40 sources—at least 30 of whom are current or former employees at Unwell—who opened up about their experience working with Alex and her husband, Matt Kaplan (with whom she’s currently expecting her first child). According to VF, many view Matt as “the puppeteer” behind Alex and her empire, with one source claiming, “Matt creates the most toxic work environment that I’ve ever seen.”

Complaints made by the anonymous sources ranged from yelling (“I’ve seen producers cry,” said one contractor) to inappropriate behavior (“I’ve heard him in the office be like to employees, ‘Who did you have sex with this weekend?’” a former employee said). Both Matt and Alex declined to speak to Vanity Fair, with a rep for the couple calling the allegations “false and outrageous”—but this isn’t the first time such claims have been made.

In April, Bloomberg reported that Alex’s husband—who’s known for producing projects like Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy and its spin-off series, XO, Kitty—“has earned a reputation for frequently yelling at staff members.” Crew members have allegedly threatened to quit if he “doesn’t keep his distance” from them and adjust his behavior.

The exposé alleged that Matt “berated the staff on set and threatened to prevent them from ever working in Hollywood again if they messed up, resulting in a prominent, long-experienced crew member breaking down in tears.”

Some of the tension is shown in Hulu’s Call Her Alex documentary, where the production manager for her first live tour threatened to quit. According to a source “close to the conflict,” the manager took issue with Matt “disrespecting staff by yelling and swearing at them.”

Apparently, DeuxMoi has also “received many tips on the Alex Cooper/Matt Kaplan chaos all last year” and suggested that “most likely, articles on Unwell have been in the works for a while but they were published now because the Alex v Alix drama pushed Cooper into the spotlight.”

After Bloomberg’s report surfaced, Deux released additional blind items and emails they received in December that claimed “some internal stuff [is] going on” at Unwell and that “people at the head of Hollywood are wary of” Alex and her business strategy.

Per one tipster, a Hollywood exec claimed that Alex has a “bad reputation of cultivating poor relationships with women in the business,” allegedly regarding Alix and her former Call Her Daddy co-host, Sofia Franklyn.

Bloomberg also revealed that several high-level execs exited Unwell in the past year, including the company’s head of brand marketing, head of the network, and chief growth officer. At least 20 out of the reported 100 employees at Unwell had also marked themselves as leaving in 2025 and 2026, per LinkedIn.

Reps for Alex, Matt, and the Unwell Network have yet to weigh in on the allegations.
