KATSEYE just made their American Music Awards debut on Monday, May 25, and spoiler alert: they crushed it. Not only did the girls perform their latest single, “Pinky Up,” but they made a clean sweep and took home awards for every category in which they were nominated.
When the global girl group—Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Daniela Avanzini, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae—went up to accept the trophy for Best New Artist, Megan started their speech by thanking fans.
“Thank you to the EYEKONS. We’re so grateful for every single one of you. We could not be here without you guys. We love you so much,” she said, before the group later thanked the chairman of HYBE and Geffen and gave BTS a shoutout.
Daniela added, “Thank you so so much to the AMAs. Thank you to our friends, our family, to us. We did this together.”
Longtime fans also pointed out that the girls failed to mention their bandmate, Manon Bannerman, who has been on a temporary hiatus from the group since February. One fan alleged that they lied about Manon being their “sister forever” during an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe ahead of their Coachella debut.
“Guys its obvious they aren’t allowed to mention manon can yall just stop,” one fan wrote in the group’s defense, while another added, “Don’t get me wrong i LOVE my girls and i can understand they are restricted from saying a few things related to manon but couldn't they at least mention her at the amas?”
Someone else chimed in, “To be fair, manon never posted about the girls achievements and removing katseye in her bio. These girls don’t owe anything [to] manon.”

This all comes after Lara hopped on a Weverse livestream to debunk “harmful false narratives” surrounding KATSEYE, with and without Manon, on Monday, May 11.
“I did want to talk to you guys, though, because, I mean…there’s obviously been so much chatter and so many things getting twisted,” she said, adding, “Things all six of us have done or things we haven’t done that apparently gets twisted into something we did do…[there are] so many false narratives and, like, very harmful false narratives.”
Any mention of Manon has been kept to a minimum since her hiatus, and it’s likely the girls aren’t legally allowed to speak about her. Neither HYBE nor Geffen has confirmed whether that’s true, but fans are already theorizing that’s why she wasn’t thanked during their AMAs speech.
