The Pitt’s Supriya Ganesh is sadly leaving the show for Season 3, which might have you wondering how they’re going to write off her character, Dr. Samira Mohan. And apparently, they’re not...ish.

TVLine asked showrunner R. Scott Gemmill if Dr. Mohan’s exit was “always part of the plan” and if the final episodes of Season 2 were “meant to suggest she might not be built for the long-term demands of the emergency department.”

He responded with a simple “yeah” and added, “Due to the nature of a teaching hospital, a lot of people move on. That's part of the fabric of the show. One of the reasons we did a four-month jump was so we didn't have to move everyone out. We love these actors, we love writing for them, and the audience enjoys them, so it's bittersweet when we have to see someone leave, but it's part of the process. She struggled a little bit, and that's part of the reality of medicine, some people do better than others. She's very good at connecting with patients, but she doesn't move as quickly as is expected these days in the ER.”

The outlet then pointed out that the new season takes place in November, meaning that Dr. Mohan will still be in the final year of her residency. Gemmill’s response to that? “Yeah, she's just not working that day.” In other words, Dr. Mohan still seemingly works at the ER, we’re just not going to see her on shift.

Noah Wyle previously spoke about Dr. Mohan’s departure from the ER, saying “It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically. Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”

Meanwhile, Supriya spoke to JoySauce about where she hopes her character ends up, and she replied, “I hope [Samira] goes somewhere where she has an attending that thinks she’s fit to be in the ER.”
