If you’re like me, then you’ve probably spent much of Perfect Match season 4 wondering (1) whether Ally Lewber and Jimmy Presnell even like each other and (2) what the heck Jimmy Sotos is doing there. The Netflix dating show is known for bringing single hotties from various reality shows together to see who ends up being the most compatible match…but even with so many reality stars to choose from, Netflix still cast a TikToker/former Ohio State basketball player this season, which had fans more than a little confused.
During a recent appearance on The Viall Files podcast, Jimmy S. finally addressed the confusion. When asked by Natalie Joy how he got cast on the show, Jimmy laughed and said, “Honestly, I don’t even know, man.”
According to Jimmy, he initially went through the casting process for Love Island but quickly decided it wasn’t a good fit. “After the first round…I called my manager and I was like, ‘Hey, this shit’s not for me. Like no. Hell no,’” he said, later adding, “I don’t really watch reality TV. I don’t really know much about this world.”
However! While he decided that Love Island was too “messy” for his taste, he felt some regret after seeing the success of the Love Island stars. He told his manager he was open to whatever opportunity came up next, which is how he ended up auditioning for Perfect Match while playing basketball in London.
And yes, he has seen the mixed reactions to his casting online. Per Jimmy: “The resounding thing I’ve seen is: ‘We did not expect to like you. But you grew on us.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, Nick Viall asked Jimmy about his decision to plug his match Alison Ogden’s music in his Instagram Story and whether that was meant to be a “deliberate Easter egg” hinting about their relationship status. Per Jimmy, the song inclusion was “definitely not an accident.”
He continued, “That’s my dog. She held me down, I’mma hold her down, and only time will tell, I guess.”
Here’s hoping we get some answers during the finale on May 27!
