Love Island USA execs are taking measures to prevent bullying of the cast and mitigate general toxicity levels as the show gears up for its eighth season.
“Peacock has gotten actively involved in the pre-season this time to avoid playing catch-up as the season is airing like there have been in seasons past,” a source tells The Sun. “It was a strategic move that has been discussed ever since the end of last season when the bullying and online hatred was at an all-time high. They know they cannot control the fans’ reactions online so the only thing they can do is control how that reaction gets to the cast and try to limit that as much as possible. The UK show already uses precautionary measures and the U.S. is going to start implementing it more and more.”
This is “not a one-off decision” and is how the show will be handled moving forward. As the source puts it, “If it proves to be successful, other Peacock shows will follow suit. This could be the beginning of the new standard way reality TV casts are handled, at least for Peacock.”
Ahead of the premiere, the official Love Island USA Instagram account published a statement asking fans to “keep it kind,” writing, “The Villa runs on good vibes, and so does this community. We love seeing your reactions, opinions, and debates, but everyone deserves to feel safe and respected. This is a space for fun, not negativity—so keep it kind, keep it positive, and remember: this is LOVE Island!”
Love Island USA premieres June 2 on Peacock.
