Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are dating after reportedly falling for each other during their stint in Broadway’s The Music Man, and we’re taking a look at their friendship-turned-relationship. Here’s what we know about how these two became so close, when their vibes shifted into something deeper, and why things are slightly...dramatic.
Hugh and Sutton are photographed backstage at SHREK on Broadway, which is honestly incredible. If I had a time machine, I’d go back to see this musical.

Sutton and Hugh dance in the audience at the Tony Awards (FYI, Hugh was hosting!):

Just gonna give you a moment to watch this video:

Sutton and Hugh attend a charity event together in NYC.

Then they go onto Late Night and talk to Seth Meyers about their friendship.
A couple days later, they show up to a Tony Awards event...

And then have a moment at the Annual Drama League Awards!

Sutton chats about Hugh to Vogue, saying, “He has an impeccable reputation of being the hardest working man, incredibly kind, and generous—and all of that is true. He disarms everyone, and he doesn’t make anything about him. And he’s now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, Well, I hope we get along. But we just spent Memorial Day with our families. It’s really fun to meet new friends after 40.”
Then it’s the Tonys, and whomst should show up?

Psst: Here’s a cute pic of them backstage:

Sutton tells Live With Kelly and Mark that she and Hugh have a pre-show ritual. “We just talk and catch up on our day,” she explains. “That’s been one of the best parts of the whole thing that I’ve made this wonderful new friend.”
The next day, they attend another event together. (They’re colleagues, so makes sense!)

Hugh and and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness separate after 27 years of marriage. The couple releases the following statement to People:
“We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth. Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
A year later, news breaks that Sutton Foster has filed for divorce from her husband, Ted Griffin. Meanwhile, Page Six speaks to a source who says she and Hugh “are 100 percent together and are in love and want to spend the rest of their lives together.”
Us Weekly drops a bombshell report claiming Hugh and Sutton’s alleged romance is “the reason” he filed for divorce. According to their source, Sutton and Hugh’s relationship started during their time in TheMusic Man.
“Sutton and Hugh’s relationship is the reason Hugh and Deb got divorced,” the insider confirms. “A lot of people on Broadway knew, and we kept it quiet because both of them are so nice and great people. Everyone respected their privacy. But there was an affair and overlap. They are really happy now.”
The source adds that Sutton and Hugh “don’t live together because of their kids,” but apparently, “Sutton has told people on Broadway about the relationship. Everyone [there] has known about this for a long time.”
After months of rumors, Hugh and Sutton confirm their relationship and are spotted holding hands on their way to a dinner date in pics obtained by People!
A few days later, Hugh's ex Deborra-Lee reportedly weighs in on the drama. "Deborra-Lee feels a sense of relief to be honest with you," a source tells the Daily Mail. "'She has been plagued with suspicions. She was told it wasn't true, and that they were nothing more than close friends who worked together. But something in her heart told her that this was not true."
According to the insider, Deborra-Lee is glad that Hugh and Sutton's relationship is finally public so she can stop speculating. "She trusted her intuition and her intuition was right," adds the source. "She finally feels at ease after getting confirmation that her fears and suspicions were warranted. She can now fully close this chapter and move on."
Not long after, the Daily Mailpublishes pics of Hugh and Sutton smooching while grabbing In-N-Out in San Fernando—and the photos are very intimate.
A source for Us Weekly gives an update the couple, claiming Hugh and Sutton are "madly in love" and—while they're "not rushing into marriage"—they "are committed to taking the next steps together."
As the insider explains, "They’re not officially living together but spending a lot of time together," adding that they're "relieved and happy" to no longer hide their relationship.
According to a source who spoke to Australia's New Idea, viaPage Six, Hugh and Sutton are living together in his NYC penthouse. Which apparently has left Deb "shattered" since "she poured her soul into" the space.
Also! A source tells Us Weekly that—amid Deb making a public statement—Hugh “is still with Sutton, and they are trying to navigate this delicately. She has been very supportive.”
Us Weekly reports that Hugh and Sutton went on a romantic vacation to tropical Massachusetts. According to a source, the pair took a “little getaway” to Canyon Ranch in Lenox, which, love that for them!
Aaaand they’re red carpet official! The two pose together at the Los Angeles premiere of Hugh’s latest film, Song Sung Blue, where they look pretty darn smitten.
Hugh shares a photo of Sutton performing in at New York’s Café Carlyle, which makes them (*drum roll pls*) Instagram official!
They share yet another red carpet moment at Song Sung Blue’s NYC premiere.

The couple is snapped on vacay in Costa Rica, where they’re not shy about packing on the PDA.
The first Monday in May rolls around, which means it’s time for Hugh and Sutton to make a Met Gala couple debut.

Stay tuned for more on these two!
