In today’s edition of celebrity parents being messy, it looks like Lorde’s mom, Sonja Yelich, has seemingly thrown shade at Lena Dunham after she made a rare public appearance at the Met Gala on Monday, May 4.

In an interview posted on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s official social media account, Lena spoke about her first experiences with culture within the walls of the iconic New York City-based museum.

“It was just the most incredible education, and as I’ve grown up, I’ve appreciated more and more what this place is for so many New Yorkers, for students, for artists, for people who just want a place to experience something like church or temple. It’s a religious experience to move through this museum,” she said, in part.

While most comments praised Lena for her thoughtful words, which supported the Met and the Costume Institute, others were more critical of her attendance at fashion’s biggest night.

“No one gives a shit about your opinion Lena,” one naysayer wrote in the comments of the post featuring the Girls creator, to which Lorde’s mom, Sonja, echoed, “No one.”

The timing here is interesting, considering Lena opened up about her ex Jack Antonoff’s dynamic with an unnamed “teen pop star” in her memoir, Famesick, which was officially released last month. Fans speculated that the chapter could be alluding to Jack’s work with Lorde on her sophomore album, Melodrama, though Lena has not explicitly confirmed whether she was referring to the “What Was That” singer.

“One day I returned home from a bone density test to find her sprawled across our sectional couch, weeping into Jack’s lap as he told her that ‘your teens are for experimenting’ in a tone so comforting, it almost brought tears to my eyes. It had been so long since he’d spoken to me with that kind of expansive generosity,” Lena wrote in the chapter, per Variety. She also revealed that the singer had referred to her as “Aunt Lena” as she walked around her home with a walker due to her ongoing battle with endometriosis.

Lena even referenced the infamous PowerPoint presentation created by Hillary Benton in 2018, which theorized that Jack had cheated on her with Lorde. While the speculation remains and the rumors have yet to be confirmed, Lena shared that the slides were “so convincing that they had me rethinking events that I myself had been present for.”

She eventually DMed Hillary to prove “she was in on the joke,” and ultimately declined an invitation to clear the air on her podcast.
