As a beauty editor who’s tested dozens (if not hundreds) of makeup products, it’s safe to say I have some very strong opinions about which ones are actually worth your hard-earned cash. But one lippie that forever has a spot in my rotation? Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey—yep, the nostalgic 90s icon TikTok is still obsessed with. And lucky for me, it’s on sale for less than $20 right now.
Despite the small army of lip products currently lined up on my desk, Almost Lipstick’s my-lips-but-better tint and hydrating formula always has me coming back for more—after all, it was named one our editors’ best long-lasting picks. I love that its comfortable, emollient-rich formula that feels more like a tinted lip balm than a lipstick. Plus, the black cherry hue looks so flattering on a wide range of skin tones, thanks to the sheer yet buildable pigment.
Given its universal appeal, it's no wonder Black Honey has remained one of the best-selling lipsticks of all time since its 1971 debut. Need proof? Molly Ringwald's character in 1985's The Breakfast Club gave Black Honey its on-screen notoriety. In the 90s, it was Drew Barrymore and Courteney Cox's go-to lip color of choice. And Liv Tyler's ethereal The Lord of the Rings glam that's still living rent-free in my head? Also Black Honey.

"Clinique Black Honey makes me feel like a 90s it-girl," adds shopping editor Sarah Maberry. "A quick swipe, and I’m Kate Moss at the peak of her supermodel power. I'm Courtney Love on stage in a lingerie slip dress. The type who’s effortlessly cool enough to not care if their lipstick gets a little smudged. Thankfully, the lightweight, sheer formula of the Almost Lipstick looks great as it fades."
Thanks to Amazon Prime Day, you can save 30% on this timeless lipstick, bringing it to just just $17. The sale ends tomorrow, June 26, so I'm securing a backup tube (or two!) ASAP.
More Prime Day deals, right this way…
