While it might seem like there are literally no rules on Love Island USA and Love Island UK based on the cast going absolutely wild in every single episode, the folks at Peacock actually run a very tight ship. And one of the strictest rules on set? A two-drink limit.
According to The Guardian, the two-drink rule was introduced to Love Island UK around 2017. Former contestant Megan Barton-Hanson explained, “They were sneaky as well. They’d give you nosecco, no-alcohol prosecco.” And when Megan broke the rules by drinking another contestant’s allocated drinks, producers “went mental” and threatened to ban her. Ultimately, though, she’s glad drinking was restricted because “I just think emotions would’ve been heightened. It just would’ve been a different show for everyone. It’s so intense in there. Every day is equivalent to a week, there is no escape. With alcohol in the mix as well, it would’ve been absolute chaos.”
Meanwhile, former contestant Liana Isadora Van-Riel told The Sun, “You’re allowed one or two drinks a night,” with the options being “either wine or beer, no spirits.”
This rule appears to be the case for Love Island USA as well. Though former contestant Phoebe Siegel said on TikTok that they actually had one drink per night only: a glass of red or white wine which was “not a generous pour.”
As for production’s stance on the whole thing, a few years back a spokesperson said, “We provide our islanders with all of the necessary precautionary measures and all alcohol consumption is strictly monitored by our production team.”
