Madison Beer shines on “locket deluxe” album

Released on May 8, Madison Beer’s deluxe version of “locket” completes the album with four new songs, including an extended version of “locket theme.” Instead of feeling like extra tracks, the additions bring the album full circle, giving it a stronger sense of closure.

As her third studio album, “locket,” shows how much Beer has grown into her identity as an artist, the deluxe version strengthens that with songs that clearly fit her aesthetic and build on the sound she has created. There is a confidence throughout these tracks that shows how comfortable she has become in her music.

The added tracks begin with “lovergirl,” an uplifting, romantic track. In “lovergirl,” she cannot hold back how she feels and ends up expressing it openly.

“I, I just can’t help that I’m a lovergirl,” Beer sings.

The line captures how open and vulnerable her emotions are, setting the tone for the rest of the deluxe. That feeling slightly changes with “free,” one of the most breathtaking moments on the extended album. The vocals are powerful and emotional, showing her passion across the lyrics.

“I don’t need permission,” Beer sings. “I’ll do whatever I please.”

The lyrics bring a sense of confidence and independence, making the song feel empowering. It is a jaw-dropping track that completely stands out as one of the strongest on the deluxe.

“somehow i got lucky” brings the energy back down with a softer tone. It captures the kind of love that almost feels too good to be real. 

“And when I don’t know if it’s possible to get better, it does,” Beer sings.

The lyric show how love can work out in ways one might not expect, and it gives the song an inside view into Beer’s perspective on a relationship.

Across the four tracks, the deluxe leans into themes of love and romance. It moves through the different stages of what it feels like to be in love, making the songs feel so personal. “locket theme (extended)” stands out as a highlight to fans and shows it needed more time, as the original felt too short for how good the song is. The lyrics are so reflective and heartfelt.

“Now I see that I can love you from far away,” Beer sings.

The line changes the listener’s perspective, showing how love can be shown in different ways.

The changes fit naturally into the original album. Nothing feels out of place, and the songs blend seamlessly together without changing the overall tone. Her vocals are especially impressive and perfectly express the overwhelming emotions of being in love. The deluxe cover is beautiful and stays true to the main cover’s vibe, but with a more mysterious and darker presence. 

Beer has started The Locket Tour, performing every song from the album, including the deluxe tracks, bringing them to life in a way that builds such a connection with the crowd. It is a strong addition to her discography and shows that Beer is an artist who deserves more recognition for her vocals and lyrics. This album deserves a listen.
