Qualcomm has officially announced its latest mobile platforms, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. These new chipsets are designed to enhance mid-range and entry-level smartphones by prioritizing battery efficiency, smoother user interfaces, and robust connectivity.

A key introduction across both platforms is the Snapdragon Smooth Motion interface. This technology is specifically engineered to improve device interactions, reducing screen stutters and increasing the speed at which applications open and operate.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 5

As the more advanced of the pair, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 focuses heavily on AI-powered camera features and gaming performance. Key highlights include:

• Performance: A 21% improvement in GPU performance compared to the previous generation.
• Gaming: Integration of the Qualcomm Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 for more immersive and sustained gaming sessions.
• Fluidity: Apps launch 20% faster, with an 18% reduction in UI lag.
• Connectivity: Support for both 5G and the latest Wi-Fi 7 standards.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 brings significant upgrades to more affordable device segments, marked by a massive 77% boost in GPU performance. Notably, it introduces 90 fps gameplay to the 4-series for the first time. Other features include:

• Efficiency: Smooth Motion technology allows for 43% faster app launches and 25% fewer screen stutters.
• Connectivity: Support for Dual SIM Dual Active (DSDA) 5G + 5G/4G, allowing users to remain active on two networks simultaneously.

Market Availability

According to Qualcomm, these platforms will soon debut in devices from several major manufacturers. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 is slated for upcoming smartphones from Honor and Redmi. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 will power new devices from OPPO, Realme, and Redmi.

Chenwei Yan, Senior VP at Qualcomm, emphasized that these releases are part of a broader strategy to bring next-generation smartphone experiences—balancing performance and energy efficiency—to a wider global audience.
