Microsoft Launches Surface Pro 12 And Laptop 8 With Intel...
Paulo Montenegro · 2026-05-20 · via Ubergizmo

Microsoft has officially introduced the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8, focusing primarily on the business market. Moving away from an exclusive ARM architecture, these enterprise-tier devices launch with Intel’s Panther Lake processor platform. This strategic update establishes premium baseline pricing ahead of anticipated Snapdragon X2 releases.

The Surface Pro 12 for Business

The Surface Pro 12 2-in-1 marks a transition to Intel Core Ultra 5 335 and Core Ultra 7 366H processors. This hybrid hardware supports LPDDR5X RAM configurations of 16 GB, 32 GB, or 64 GB. Unlike its laptop counterpart, the 2-in-1 model relies on standard integrated Intel Graphics rather than Arc B390 graphics.

Microsoft separates the Surface Pro 12 line into two screen categories operating at a 120Hz refresh rate: standard LCD PixelSense and advanced OLED. To accommodate varying power consumption needs, LCD-equipped configurations carry a 47Wh battery, while OLED variants feature a larger 53Wh cell. The chassis maintains its traditional structural design, offering:

  • Dual USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a proprietary magnetic Surface Connect port.
  • Native 5G cellular connectivity options.
  • A 1440p Quad HD front-facing camera alongside a 10MP 4K-capable rear camera.
  • Integrated Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless protocols.

The Surface Laptop 8 Architecture

The Surface Laptop 8 replaces prior Intel models with 13.8-inch and 15-inch options. High-tier variants, featuring the Core Ultra 7 368H processor, leverage an integrated Intel Arc B390 GPU. The system introduces an advanced haptic touchpad configured to provide tactile physical feedback during Windows 11 tasks.

Retaining IPS displays over rumored OLED technology, the 15-inch model upgrades its resolution to a 3270 x 2180 PixelSense Flow panel at 120Hz. Meanwhile, the 13.8-inch variant adds a hardware-based privacy filter toggled via the F1 key, which is unavailable if configured with 5G hardware. The physical interface retains one USB-A port, and two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, and adds a MicroSDXC Express card slot exclusively on the 15-inch frame.

Price and Availability

Additionally, Microsoft introduced a compact 13-inch Intel-based Surface Laptop for Business (1st Edition), complementing the previous Qualcomm model. The business models are available for order in the United States, starting at $1,949 for the entry-level Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 variants, while maximum configurations approach $4,499.99. Consumer-facing retail models are expected to arrive in June.
