At its annual developer conference, Huawei officially debuted HarmonyOS 7, providing an early look at the next generation of its cross-device operating system. Designed to integrate across smartphones, tablets, PCs, and wearables, the update focuses on deep artificial intelligence capabilities, improved hardware performance, and comprehensive security enhancements.

The most noticeable change in HarmonyOS 7 is its new spatial design language. Huawei utilizes advanced software-based rendering to introduce three-dimensional effects, dynamic lighting, and enhanced depth across system elements like wallpapers, buttons, and sliders. Notably, the system has a strong resemblance to iOS 26’s Liquid Glass aesthetic, sharing a similar focus on depth, translucent layers, and interfaces that react dynamically to user touch and movement.

Beyond its visual overhaul, HarmonyOS 7 transitions to an AI-centric architecture. Rather than layering standalone smart features on top of existing software, Huawei has embedded intelligence directly into the system’s foundation. The upgraded Celia assistant acts as a centralized intelligence hub capable of executing complex, multi-step actions across different applications. Powered by the new HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0, the system handles complex user intent requests with a task completion rate exceeding 90 percent.

Security also receives a major upgrade through a dedicated anti-fraud platform. HarmonyOS 7 can actively identify suspicious QR codes, flag app impersonation attempts, block fraudulent web pages, and detect spoofed international phone numbers. Additionally, the software introduces AI-driven voice scam detection to flag malicious communication in real time. Under the hood, Huawei claims the new OS yields up to a 15 percent performance boost over previous iterations while optimizing long-term system load.

The developer beta for HarmonyOS 7 is currently available for select flagship models, including the Mate 80 Pro, Mate X7, and Pura 90 Pro Max. The stable commercial version is expected to roll out later this year, with the upcoming Mate 90 series anticipated to be the first devices to ship with the software preinstalled.
