when i worked at the ny district attorney, i made a gis map layer for all public and private (non-residential) cameras (i was asked by a superior), and it pretty looks like that map (liked the job at first, but it soon got creepy)

there was a webinar about issues that have come up with microchips (and of course *now* i cannot my notes, the webinar information, etc.) -- such as the rescue group who did the microchipping no longer exists, microchips purchased on amazon, etc. . . . microchips really *should* be a good thing, but they are far from perfect :(

yes, exactly! i had mine activated through the company (Home Again) -- and the chip was implanted when little Ringo had all this massive dental work . . . iirc, the context of this webinar was lost and found cats, dogs, etc.; reunification; is the cat a "stray" or "feral" or "lost;" etc. . . . so if they end up in a shelter, or rescued by a human, they could be scanned for a chip, but the chip ends up being a dead end
