Enraged by two cars blocking an EV charging station in China, a man attacked the vehicles with a fire extinguisher and defied police commands to stand down when officers arrived.
The incident happened on May 22 when a young man driving a pink Wuling electric car arrived at a charging station and found all charging spaces occupied. Two of the vehicles were parked at charging spots without being plugged in, according to Chinese news site 163.
The man initially waited nearby for the owners to return. But after a long delay, he opened his trunk, took out a fire extinguisher and began smashing the two vehicles. Police later arrived after receiving reports from witnesses, but the man continued the attack and drove his car into the two vehicles.
The incident quickly spread across Chinese social media, triggering divided reactions, with some users praising the man while others criticized his actions.
"Buddy, you did a great job! I always see cars like these occupying charging spots without charging. I have wanted to do this for a long time but never dared to. You did what I could not!" one commenter wrote.
"I completely understand him! Every time I ride my electric scooter home after work, the charging stations in the parking lot are occupied by scooters that are not charging. I have thought about marking those vehicles, but only dared to think about it. This guy actually did it!" another said.
"Have the two drivers learned their lesson now? Let us see whether they dare block charging spots like that again!" another commenter wrote.

Although blocking charging spaces without charging is widely viewed as inconsiderate, the man could face criminal liability under Chinese law for intentionally damaging property.
The incident comes as China rapidly expands its electric vehicle charging network to support growing EV adoption. The number of charging facilities nationwide reached 21.96 million by the end of April 2026, up 47.4% from a year earlier, according to the National Energy Administration.
Public charging facilities accounted for 4.91 million of the total, marking a 29.6% year-on-year increase. Combined charging capacity reached 237 million kilowatts.
In October 2025, authorities introduced a three-year action plan targeting a nationwide network of 28 million charging facilities by the end of 2027, according to Xinhua. Public charging capacity is expected to exceed 300 million kilowatts under the plan.
